Green Bay Packers ticket prices rise for Saints, Lions, Broncos; Raiders game remains most expensive

GREEN BAY – The Green Bay Packers suffered a late-in-the-game loss on Sunday, but the Detroit Lions engineered their own last minute defeat, so the Packers remain in first place in the NFC North division.

Despite the loss, excitement over the young-and-talented Packers seems to be holding up. The coming two home games are less expensive on the secondary market than they were in late August, but the two road games, in Las Vegas and Denver, are more expensive, and all are more expensive than they were last week. Secondary marketplace TicketSmarter also reported each game as higher than last week.

"The Packers looked surprisingly good in their opener against the Bears, and that has engendered some excitement and additional demand," said Dennis Garrity, president of Event USA in Ashwaubenon. "It's possible with the loss yesterday that prices could trend down, but there still is a sense of excitement for this very young and bourgeoning team, which may be able to perform beyond expectations."

Packers quarterback Jordan Love, who had a lot of fan goodwill going into the season, demonstrated he's not in over his head as an NFL starter. In two games he's thrown for six touchdowns and no interceptions, and that without his potential top receiver for two games and best running back for one. When it comes to selling tickets, quarterbacks matter as much off the field as on.

Ticket prices

For our look at Packers' ticket prices, we average the lowest ticket prices at 11 secondary-market websites: Event USA, GametimeGreen Bay Ticket Service,  SeatGeekStubHubTicketIQTicket KingTicketmasterTickPick, TicketSmarter and Vivid Seats.

Note that ticket brokers can add fees on top of the prices listed here, so actual costs might be higher.

The Packers will sell standing-room-only tickets for all home games this season. The face value of SRO tickets is $93. As the standing-room-only tickets are designated as not available for resale, any tickets found on the secondary market cannot be verified, so buyers should proceed at their own risk. If fans purchase standing-room-only tickets on the secondary market and encounter issues with the tickets, their only recourse would be to contact the ticket seller.

The get-in price averages do not include standing-room-only tickets.

The following are secondary market ticket prices as of Sept. 18:

Sept. 24, noon, Lambeau Field, New Orleans Saints, Fox

Face-price range: $129-$165

Average lowest-cost seat: $181

Price in August: $225

Range of lowest-cost seats: $145-$325

Saints results: New Orleans is 2-0. New Orleans defeated the Carolina Panthers 20-17 on Monday night.

What matters about this game?: It is the Packers' home opener and is at noon in September, making it an attractive game. The weather forecast vacillates between partly sunny and cloudy skies with a high of 70, pretty good football weather if showers hold off until later in the day. For Packers fans, that trumps who the opponent is, pretty much the opposite of the next home game four days later.

Sept. 28, 7:15 p.m., Lambeau Field, Detroit Lions, Amazon

Face-price range: $129-$165

Average lowest-cost seat: $180

Price in August: $196

Range of lowest-cost seats: $140-$213

Lions results: Detroit is 1-1. The Lions lost to the Seattle Seahawks 37-31 in overtime on Sunday.

What matters about this game?: Packers analysts downplayed expectations for this year because the team has a new quarterback and very young receivers, but if there are any outside hopes of winning a division title or making the playoffs, Green Bay will have to get past Detroit. This is a Gold package Thursday night game, which is about as bad a combination as you can get, but because there are high expectations for Detroit this year, the average get-in price is equal to the better-timed Saints game. If this game was at noon Sunday, it would be priced higher.

The average get-in price for the game in Detroit on Thanksgiving, also on a Thursday, but at 11:30 a.m., is $280.

The Lions host the 2-0 Atlanta Falcons this week, a game they should win.

More: Not much seems to have changed for Joe Barry's Packers defense, which has similar breakdowns to last year's edition

Oct. 9, 7:15 p.m., Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas Raiders, ESPN

Face-price range: N/A

Average lowest-cost seat: $451

Price in August: $366

Range of lowest-cost seats: $360-$573

Raiders results: Las Vegas is 1-1. The Raiders lost 38-10 to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

What matters about this game?: Another game that's not well-timed for traveling Packers fans, many of whom would have to take at least two days off work to attend. Nevertheless, it's in Las Vegas and demand remains high. Already the most expensive game on the schedule, it increased by $38 in the last week. The average get-in price on Monday was $451, compared with $413 last week and $366 in late August.

TicketSmarter pegged the get-in price at $442, which makes it the highest in the league for Week 5. For context, the most expensive get-in price in the league for Week 3 is Pittsburgh at Las Vegas at $503. Like Packers fans, Steelers fans travel pretty well.

"The dynamics are all present to keep that value strong," Garrity said. "It's a smallish stadium compared to most NFL venues. Obviously, Vegas for many people is a desirable travel destination, and they can combine a lot of other activities with watching their favorite football team. We had very robust package offerings for this game and are completely sold out."

Oct. 22, 3:25 p.m., Empower Field at Mile High, Denver Broncos, CBS

Face-price range: N/A

Average lowest-cost seat: $238

Price in August: $170

Range of lowest-cost seats: $215-$280

Broncos results: Denver is 1-1. The Broncos lost to the Washington Commanders 35-33 on Sunday.

What matters about this game?: Although Denver lost to Washington, the Broncos are playing better than last season, when they finished 5-12. Whether prices will hold or decrease depends on how both teams perform in the next three weeks. The Packers will come off their bye week for this game, marking the end of a 23-day stretch in which Green Bay plays only once, on Oct. 9 in Las Vegas.
