Greater Taunton high school top performers for Sept. 18-23

TAUNTON— Another week of high school sports is upon us in the Greater Taunton area.

The week got off to another wet start, pushing some games back, but there was still plenty of local high school sports action.

Here's a look at the Greater Taunton area's top performing high school athletes for the week of Sept. 18-23.

MONDAY

Volleyball

Corinne Braga led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (1-4, 0-4 South Coast Conference) with 16 digs and three aces while Kylie Smith had three kills and a block as the Falcons fell 3-0 to Bourne (18-25, 15-25 and 15-25) at home in SCC action.

TUESDAY

Girls Soccer

Isabella Fischer and Willow Forbes-Smith both found the back of the net while Lily Guirleo recorded a pair of assists as Bridgewater-Raynham (5-0, 2-0 Southeast Conference) defeated Brockton 2-1 at home in SEC action.

Boys Cross Country

Drew Alves was the top Taunton (0-2, 0-2 Hockomock) finisher, coming in 13th overall with a time of 19:06 as the Tigers fell 50-15 to Franklin on the road in Hockomock action. Rounding out the top five for Taunton were Ben Oliveira in 19th with a time of 19:38, Eddy Travers in 20th with a time of 19:39, Ben Andrade in 21st with a time of 19:49 and Jordan Trucchi in 22nd with a time of 19:57.

Girls Cross Country

Emersyn DePonte was the top Taunton (0-2, 0-2 Hockomock) finisher, coming in second with a time of 20:11 as the Tigers fell 38-22 to Franklin on the road in Hockomock action. Rounding out the top five for the Tigers were Sarah Mendonca in fourth with a time of 20:55, Madison Dias in ninth with a time of 22:28, Arianna Abatangelo in 11th with a time of 24:19 and Trinity Wilson in 13th with a time of 25:23.

Field Hockey

Reese Jefferson and Kelsey Bain both found the back of the net while Olivia Gabriel recorded an assist and Rowan Whittaker made nine saves as Dighton-Rehoboth (2-2-1, 2-0-1 SCC) beat Apponequet 2-1 on the road in SCC action.

Golf

Brayden Smith led the way for Taunton (1-6, 1-6 Hockomock) shooting a career-best 40 (+4) as the Tigers fell to Attleboro 168-151 in Hockomock action at Segregansett Country Club. Alex Dias shot a 41 (+5) while Jameson Vallerelli shot a career-best 43 (+7) and Noah Faidell shot a 44 (+8).

Devlin Maloney, Connor Woodman, John Mulkern, Josh O'Brien and Frank Stephen all won their respective matches as Bristol-Plymouth (2-1, 2-1 Mayflower Athletic Conference) beat South Shore Tech 5-4 in MAC action at Olde Scotland Links.

Jordan Dietz led the way for Dighton-Rehoboth (3-2, 3-2 SCC) shooting a 37 (+1) as the Falcons fell by just a single stroke to Greater New Bedford, 265-264, in SCC action at Hillside Country Club. James Czech shot a 39 (+3) while Charlie Rosa shot a 46 (+10), Ella Rosa shot a 47 (+11) and Mason Ellinwood and Sam Courcy each shot a 48 (+12).

WEDNESDAY

Boys Soccer

Javonte Fernandes scored a pair of goals, including the winner, while Xavier Mercado added another as Taunton (3-2, 3-1 Hockomock) defeated North Attleboro 3-2 on the road in Hockomock action.

Girls Soccer

Haleigh Kelley made 15 saves and kept a clean sheet as Dighton-Rehoboth (2-1-1, 1-1-1 SCC) drew Apponequet 0-0 on the road in SCC action.

Field Hockey

Emily Keefe scored a pair of goals off assists from Francesca Fernandes and Catalina Montero as Bridgewater-Raynham (1-2-1, 1-1 SEC) beat Brockton 2-1 at home in SCC action.

Volleyball

Holly Clary led the way for Bridgewater-Raynham (2-4, 2-0 SEC) with 27 attacks, 12 kills, 10 digs and four aces while Libby Cronin had 13 digs, 11 attacks and an ace and Jillian Russell had 18 digs, 15 assists and a pair of aces as the Trojans defeated Brockton 3-2 on the road in SEC action.

Arielle Sullivan had three aces and a kill while Nevaeh Sullivan had two kills and an ace as Bristol-Plymouth (2-2, 1-1 MAC) was swept 3-0 by Diman on the road in MAC action.

THURSDAY

Boys Soccer

Olaoluwa Oorunfunmi scored the first Bristol-Plymouth (0-5, 0-3 MAC) goal of the season while Cam Curtis made 20 saves as the Craftsmen fell to Diman 3-1 on the road in MAC action.

Girls Soccer

Lily Guirleo scored the lone goal off an assist from Haylie Fortune while Cori Cahill made seven saves as Bridgewater-Raynham (6-0, 3-0 SEC) beat Dartmouth 1-0 at home in SEC action.

Zoey Onuegbu scored both goals for Bristol-Plymouth (0-3-1, 0-2-1 MAC) as the Craftsmen fell to Diman 10-2 at home in MAC action.

Field Hockey

Rowan Whittaker made six saves while Karina Bosco and Caleigh Cloonan led defensive efforts and Reese Jefferson and Caraline Corvi led the attack as Dighton-Rehoboth (2-2-2, 2-0-1 SCC) played Nantucket to a scoreless draw at home in non-league action.

Golf

Richie Thayer, Matt Lydon and Jack Dion were all co-medalists shooting a 42 (+7) while Jack Balutis shot a 44 (+9), Jack Kless shot a 46 (+11) and Jared Russo shot a 49 (+14) as Bridgewater-Raynham (3-1, 3-0 SEC) defeated Durfee 111-119 in SEC action at Fall River Country Club.

Jordan Dietz was the medalist shooting a 41 (+6) while Charlie Rosa shot a 42 (+7), James Czech shot a 44 (+9), Ella Rosa shot a 46 (+11) and Mason Ellinwood shot a 50 (+15) as Dighton-Rehoboth (4-2, 4-2 SCC) defeated Case 278-295 in SCC action at Touisset Country Club.

FRIDAY

Boys Soccer

Tiago Conceicao, Ryan Moitoso and Michael Lopes all found the back of the net and Brennan Silva kept a clean sheet as Dighton-Rehoboth (3-0-1, 2-0-1 SCC) beat Seekonk 3-0 on the road in SCC action.

Girls Soccer

Cailee Leonard led the way for the Falcons (3-1-1, 2-1-1 SCC) with a hat trick and three assists while Kelsey Palmer had a pair of goals and an assist and Julia Chaves had a goal and an assist as D-R downed Seekonk 6-0 in SCC action. Goalkeeper Haleigh Kelley recorded her third clean sheet of the season.

Girls Para/Adaptive Running

Competing independently, Bristol-Plymouth's Mary MacDonald won the mile at Run Medford with a time of 9:05.

Golf

Charlie Rosa shot a 39 (+3) while Jordan Dietz shot a 40 (+4), Sam Courcy shot a 42 (+6), James Czech shot a 44 (+8) and Ella Rosa shot a 45 (+9) as Dighton-Rehoboth (4-3, 4-2 SCC) fell to Attleboro 260-257 in non-league action at Hillside Country Club.

Field Hockey

Jamie Mclaren made 22 saves as Bridgewater-Raynham (1-3-1, 1-2-0 SEC) fell to Dartmouth 7-0 at home in SEC action.

Kelsey Bain had a goal and two assists while Emma Horrocks and Olivia Gabriel each had a goal and Rowan Whittaker made seven saves as Dighton-Rehoboth (3-2-2, 2-0-1 SCC) beat Westport 3-0 on the road in non-league action.

Volleyball

Nevaeh Sullivan led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (3-2, 1-1 MAC) with two digs, 13 kills and a pair of aces while Arielle Sullivan had eight digs, nine kills and an ace, Christele Derogene had seven kills, Lilee Rodrigues had 15 digs and three aces and Shelby Estrella had two digs and 18 assists as the Craftsmen beat Westport 3-1 on the road in MAC action.

SATURDAY

Boys Cross Country

Daniel Leet was the top Bridgewater-Raynham (1-0, 1-0 SEC) finisher, coming in 84th place out of 227 with a time of 18:20.4 at the Ocean State XC Invitational at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick, R.I. Joshua Geer came in 87th with a time of 18:22, Joseph Brand came in 140th with a time of 19:20.4, Brian Peters came in 142nd with a time of 19:21.4, Ryan Hall came in 153rd with a time of 19:38 and Anthony Defeo came in 169th with a time of 20:17.1.

Girls Cross Country

Camden Strandberg was the top Bridgewater-Raynham (1-0, 1-0 SEC) finisher, coming in sixth place out of 155 with a time of 20:06 at the Ocean State XC Invitational at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick, R.I. Sydney O'Donnell was right behind her in seventh with a time of 20:09.7 while Brenna Woodbury came in 38th with a time of 21:31.6, Molly Jesson came in 67th with a time of 22:34.7, Audrey Lambert came in 69th with a time of 22:41.7 and Tessa Bringardner came in 77th with a time of 22:53.8.

Golf

Richie Thayer was the medalist for Bridgewater-Raynham (4-1, 4-0 SEC) shooting a 37 (+1) as the Trojans beat New Bedford 79-122 in SEC action at Whaling City Golf Course.

Volleyball

Nevaeh Sullivan led the way for Bristol-Plymouth (3-3, 1-1 MAC) with seven kills, two aces, a dig and an assist while Arielle Sullivan had six kills, four digs and an ace and Shelby Estrella had 17 digs, 10 assists and four aces as the Craftsmen fell 3-1 to Shepherd Hill at home in non-league action.
