Granville senior Noah Hausman soars as an ice skater

Even in May, Noah Hausman always has a pair of gloves in his pocket. When you spend hours each week skating in a cold ice rink, you want to be prepared.
Hausman has been figure skating since he was 3 years old. His mom, Kristan, now general manager at Newark's Lou and Gib Reese Ice Arena and a skater herself, got him into the sport at a young age. But in recent years, Hausman said skating has become even more important to him as he started taking the sport more seriously.
He spends most of his time at the Newark rink where he also works, but he travels to Columbus multiple times a week for lessons. He has gone to Cleveland and Ann Arbor, Michigan, for lessons as well. For competitions, Hausman has traveled to St. Louis, Boston, Orlando and Knoxville. His passion for the sport makes all the miles worth it, he said.
"I really enjoy it. It's something fun that I rarely ever get tired of," he said.
Hausman was one several 2024 Licking County graduating seniors who spoke to The Advocate about their high school years and their plans after graduating this spring.
Even as Hausman heads to Ohio State University in the fall, he plans on making skating an integral part of his college experience as a member of OSU's Figure Skating Club where he'll continue to hone his skills and compete.
Off the ice, Hausman said he's equally passionate about science and math, taking nearly every science and math course GHS had to offer.
"I enjoy almost the puzzle-like nature of math, like moving stuff around, seeing where it fits, kind of working through the algorithm to get an answer," he said.
Hausman will balance skating at OSU with a major in computer science and engineering.
As far as a career, Hausman is leaving the door open for something related to his major or skating. He could teach lessons, coach or choregraph routines himself, which he has already started doing in the Columbus area. Another option would be to skate professionally in ice shows, something he would love to do after college before pursing a career.
"A lot of this is kind of working on myself and kind of looking to the future because there are opportunities for me within it, which is pretty important for me," he said.
