Grand Valley State wins in Division II playoffs, setting up rematch with Ferris State

Grand Valley State ran all over its opponent, and straight to a rematch with a conference foe in the first round of the Division II playoffs.

The Lakers (10-1) outrushed Lindenwood (Missouri), 220-22, en route to a 20-3 win on Saturday in Allendale. They will now face Ferris State, the No. 1 seed in the region, in a second round of the national tournament next Saturday in Big Rapids.

Bryce Young-Walls had 16 rushes for 81 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter for GVSU, which only allowed a 27-yard field goal late in the third.

Young-Walls also had a 2-yard TD catch in the first quarter. Former Michigan State receiver Hunter Rison led the Lakers with 48 yards receiving.

Kai Ross had 16 tackles, including one for a loss, for Lindenwood (9-3).

GVSU's lone loss of the season was to Ferris State, 35-28, back on Oct. 16 in Allendale.

Division III playoffs

Wisconsin-La Crosse 58, Albion 23: The Britons (9-2) were unable to keep up on offense or defense in the run game, getting outrushed, 261 to minus-1, on Saturday in the first round of the Division II playoffs in Albion.

Jacob Parks was 24-for-30 for 285 yards and five touchdowns for Wisconsin-La Crosse (9-2). Cameron Sorenson had 81 yards receiving and three more scores, and Jacob Stutzman rushed for 136 yards and a TD.

Jack Bush was 28-for-46 for 341 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions for Albion.

Albion fell into a 13-0 hole in the first quarter on a 1-yard TD catch by Sorenson and an 8-yard run by Stutzman. The deficit grew to 27-0 after a Parks rushing TD and a 14-yard scoring catch by Dustin Schultz. Meanwhile, on Albion's first five drives, it gained 36 yards, and had three punts, one turnover on downs and a lost fumble.
