Golf stars: Vote for the Storm Works Roofing High School Boys Athlete of the Week
North Quincy High's John Toland has been voted the Storm Works Roofing & Restoration High School Boys Athlete of the Week.
The senior golfer collected nearly 5,000 votes (52.1%) to win the poll. Toland was nominated after he shot a career-best 3-under-par 31 in a 209-263 win over Rockland. His round included three birdies and six pars. That win in the last match of the season also qualified the Raiders for the state tournament.
And this week's candidates are...
SOCCER
Ryan Linhares, Sr., Oliver Ames: Linhares scored two goals and two assists in a 4-0 win over Sharon.
Wylie Gardiner, Jr., Cohasset: The goalkeeper posted his third consecutive shutout with a 3-0 win over Marshfield.
Antonio Guarino, Jr., Archbishop Williams: Guarino scored a pair of goals in a 2-1 win over St. Mary's of Lynn.
Jason + Justin Job, Srs., AMSA: These twins each had a goal and an assist in the Eagles’ exciting 4-3 win over Nipmuc in a CMADA Class B quarterfinals matchup.
Ben Martin, Sr., Medway: The captain had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over Bellingham and also had a goal and an assist in fighting back from a 2-0 deficit to tie Bellingham, 2-2.
Garrett Scagliarini, Jr., Franklin: Scagliarini scored two goals as the Panthers (13-0-5) finished an undefeated regular season and clinched a Hockomock League Kelley-Rex division title in a 3-0 win over Milford.
Marcelo Silva Jr., Sr., Marlborough: This goalkeeper made five saves to lead the host Panthers to a 2-0 win over Westborough in a CMADA Tournament consolation game.
GOLF
Carson Erick, Sr., Hingham: Erick shot a 1-under-par 71 at Easton Country Club at the Div. 1 South qualifying tournament. That was good for second place.
Cole Redder, Sr., East Bridgewater: Redder finished fourth at the Div. 3 Central Sectional qualifier at Kettle Brook Golf Club. That helped his time qualify for the Div. 3 state championships. It was the first time in program history an individual or team reached the state finals.
Owen Hamilton, Duxbury: Hamilton tied for first at the Div. 2 South qualifier by shooting a 1-over-par 71. He qualified as an individual for the state championship while the Dragons also advanced as a team.\
Johnny Gillooly, Sr., Milton: Gillooly shot an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors at the Div. 3 North Sectional qualifier.
CROSS COUNTRY
Thomas Corbett, Sr., Norwell: Corbett took first at the South Shore League Championship Meet in 16:08.
