Goal-scoring Gael and more: Vote for The Gardner News Athlete of the Week
Area high school teams wrapped up regular season games last week and will now enter into postseason play with the Central Massachusetts Athletic Directors' Association (CMADA) tournament.
In their last week, Gardner area teams finished up with some strong performances that earned several student-athletes a spot on The Gardner News Athlete of the Week for Week 7.
Last week, Annabelle Magill of Quabbin field hockey took the crown with 53.06% of the votes for her contribution in the Panthers' win over Westborough. Following Magill in the vote was Abigail Billiel (31.27%) of Narragansett girls soccer. Billiel scored two goals in Gansett's 3-2 victory against Fitchburg.
Boys Cross Country
Christian Altomonte finished first with a time of 15:51 for Monty Tech against Bay Path on Thursday. Monty Tech defeated Bay Path 18-44.
Girls Cross Country
Monty Tech defeated Bay Path 22-32 on Thursday. Mia Starziack was first place, finishing in 19:46.
Field Hockey
Mia Manca of Narragansett scored two goals and notched an assist in the Warriors' game against Tahanto on Wednesday. Lily Celata tallied Narragansett's other goal in the 3-0 win.
Quabbin's Mady Breault had two goals and an assist against Tahanto, the Panthers beating them 5-0 on Wednesday.

Boys Soccer
Oakmont standout Gael Vera joined the 100-point club last week in his team's game against Westborough on Monday. The Spartans won 4-1, and Vera scored two goals as well as two assists.
Jacob Dillingly tallied two assists in Quabbin's win on Thursday. Dillingly connected with Michael Tobin and Owen Twarong to rally past Fitchburg.
Girls Soccer
Molly Horgan has been a standout for Oakmont this season. Horgan scored a hat trick in the Spartans' 3-1 victory against Tahanto on Tuesday and scored one goal in their 2-0 win over Gardner on Thursday.
Girls Volleyball
Monty Tech volleyball has continued to have a strong season and won three matches last week -- 3-2 against Valley Tech, 3-2 against Leominster and 3-0 against Bay Path. Jayda DeCarlo totaled 13 kills, one block and two digs in the Bulldogs' win over Bay Path on Thursday.
