Goal scorer: Maclay soccer's Zac Scovotto is the Campus USA Credit Union Athlete of the Week
Records were broken in this week's Campus USA Credit Union Athlete of the Week vote.
Nearly 70,000 votes were cast, with two athletes' separated by only 2,000 votes. With a record-high voting turnout, only one local player can take the crown, and after a late surge in voting, we are heading to the soccer field.
Maclay junior Zac Scovotto took home just over 31,000 votes to take home Campus USA Credit Union Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 12-17, getting the edge over Munroe's Karlton Knight who took home over 29,000 votes.
Scoring two goals in Maclay's thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Florida High in the 3A Region 1 final, Scovtto's heroics land him Athlete of the Week honors.
One of the most prolific goal scorers in the area, and in the state, Scovotto helped lead Maclay to the 3A state semifinals, falling to Downtown Doral 4-2. Scoring 30 goals this season and helping the Marauders achieve a 19-2-2- record, Scovotto's prowess in front of net was crucial for Maclay this year.
Congratulations to Scovotto and finalists Karlton Knight (Munroe basketball), Trey Card (Florida High basketball), Hailey Payne (Florida High wrestling) and Adalyn Moore (Lincoln soccer)!
