Glendale QB, ALA-QC runner chosen Arizona Republic's athletes of the week

Zech Owens of Glendale High School and Tally Call of American Leadership Academy Queen Creek have been selected as this week's Arizona Republic athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath.

They were selected by readers on azcentral.com from among three nominees for the boys' and girls' awards posted in our weekly polls on azcentral.com

Owens, quarterback of the Cardinals' football team, was nominated after going 16 of 21 for 313 yards, 6 TDs, and ran twice for 59 yards, and a TD in a 61-12 win over Carl Hayden.

Also nominated for the boys' award were: Crewe Resendez, Highland cross country, who won the Division I/II race at the Epic Tourneys Titan Invitational with a time of 15:46.3; and Tyler Spielman, Brophy golf, who shot a second-round 65 to finish first in the individual standings and help the Brophy golf team to a second-place finish (tie) at The Classic in the Palm Beaches High School Invitational in Florida.

Call, who runs cross country for the Patriots, is a freshman who won the Epic Tourneys Titan Invitational Division III/IV race with a time of 20:08.4.

Also nominated for the girls' award were: Raechelle Dykstra, Buckeye Verrado volleyball, who is No. 1 overall in the state in hitting percentage at .484 (22nd nationally per MaxPreps). She recorded a .600 percentage Oct. 5 vs. Canyon View and .444 Oct. 4 vs. Westview, both wins; and Joy Felner, Chaparral swimming, who won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.09) and 200 IM (2:09.50) to lead her team to the championship of the High School Swim Classic in Tucson.
