Girls wrap-up: Lady Pirates cruise at Connersville, 81-47

Dec. 5—CONNERSVILLE — Class 3A No. 8 Greensburg traveled to Connersville Saturday to face the Lady Spartans in EIAC hoops action. The Lady Pirates jumped out to a 21-5 first quarter lead and never looked back, winning 81-47.

The Lady Pirates improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the EIAC. Connersville falls to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Greensburg led 48-20 at the half and 60-37 after three quarters. The Lady Pirates forced 29 turnovers by the Lady Spartans and scored 33 points off those turnovers. Greensburg was solid in the paint, outscoring Connersville 42-24. The Lady Pirates dished out 25 assists as a team.

Aly Powers led the way for the Pirates with 20 points, three rebounds and 10 assists. Leah West scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Mylie Wilkison was also in double figures with 13 points to go with four rebounds, five assists and seven steals.

Carlee Adams finished with nine points and one rebound. Claire Larrison added nine points, six rebounds and four assists. Emma McQueen had six points, one rebound and three assists. Mary Harmon tallied five points, six rebounds and two assists.

Connersville was led by Ahniyah Bennett with 15 points and eight rebounds. Serenity Pennington scored 11 points and Jacey Willhelm had eight points.

South Decatur

OLDENBURG — With :10.1 seconds remaining in the ball game, the Lady Twisters had the ball under their own basket and trailed South Decatur 32-30. Gina Grote inbounded the ball to Ellie Ryan near the top of the key. Ryan fired a 3-pointer that found the bottom of the net to give the Lady Twisters a 33-32 victory.

The Lady Cougars led 9-6 after the first quarter. Makayla Somers led South with four points in the opening eight minutes.

South went to the half leading 16-11. Brayley Sundal connected from beyond the 3-point arc for South and Molley Eden and Makayla Somers both had a bucket. Ryan had a 3-pointer in the quarter for the Lady Twisters.

The Lady Cougars held a 24-14 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Sundal hit a second 3-pointer in the third quarter. Paige McQueen and Eden both hit from the field as the Lady Cougars outscored Oldenburg 8-3 in the quarter. Ali Nobbe's 3-pointer was all for the Lady Twisters.

Ryan scored 11 points, including the final three, in the fourth quarter as Oldenburg outscored South 19-8 to rally to the win.

South falls to 6-4 while the Lady Twisters improve to 6-2.

South was led in scoring by Eden with eight points to go with eight rebounds. Makayla Somers and Sundal both added seven points followed by Makayla Puckett five (five assists), Taylor Somes three (nine rebounds) and McQueen two.

Ryan led Oldenburg with 17 points. Nobbe scored six.

North Decatur

GREENSBURG — The North Decatur Lady Chargers took to the hardwood on Thursday and defeated then Class A No. 11 Oldenburg 51-45 to improve to 5-3 on the season.

North's defensive pressure forced 22 OA turnovers and created 15 points off those turnovers for the Lady Chargers.

Madi Allen led the team with 15 points and eight rebounds. Ella Kunz scored nine points. Jo Whitaker started her first career game and had seven points, nine rebounds and four assists. Sydney Rohls came off the bench and scored seven points in 16 minutes of action. Ally Whitaker provided four important points that kept the Lady Twisters momentum in check.

North travels to undefeated Class 2A No. 2 Eastern Hancock Tuesday.

The junior varsity Lady Chargers (5-3) fell to Oldenburg 35-27.

Jo Whitaker led North with eight points. Ally Whitaker had seven points. Jewel Verseman scored six points. Emma Schoettmer chipped in with two points.

Batesville

BATESVILLE — Batesville played host to Shelbyville Saturday. The Lady Golden Bears picked up the road win 39-18.

The Lady Bulldogs fall to 5-4 on the season. Shelbyville is 6-3.

Shelbyville led 14-7 after the first quarter and stretched the lead to 23-9 at the half. The Lady Golden Bears outscored Batesville 16-9 in the second half to lock down the win.

Scorers for Batesville included Kaylin Kathmann five points, Sophie Gesell four points, Alyson Peters four points, Nora Wiedeman three points and Marlee Obermyer two points.

The JV Lady Bulldogs fell to the Shelbyville 31-42. The Lady Bulldogs were led by Nora Wiedeman and Liv Maddock with seven points each.
