Girls soccer: Who's in the reshuffled Top 10, and first class rankings of 2023?

High school varsity girls soccer got back on schedule throughout the Lower Hudson Valley, after the previous week was marred by postponements due to excessive heat and inclement weather.

Here's an updated look at the top 10 team rankings. All records are entering Sept. 19.

10. Suffern (4-0)

Is Suffern turning a corner? After a couple of rebuilding seasons, the Mounties are off to a good start, which began with a 6-2 win over Harrison, followed by back-to-back shutout victories over Mamaroneck and Port Chester. An upcoming road matchup with Mahopac should be a good test for the Mounties. Previously: Not ranked

9. North Rockland (2-1)

After a lopsided win over New Rochelle, the Red Raiders followed up with a 2-0 out-of-section win over Jamesville-DeWitt, before falling to Arlington, 2-0. They'll have a busier week ahead filled with league opponents. Previously: 10

8. Tappan Zee (4-0-1)

The Dutchmen are unbeaten so far this season. They kept their opponents scoreless in three out of five games. On Monday, Tappan Zee coach Bill Lynch surpassed North Rockland's John Westbrook, a state hall of famer, with his 257th career win to become Rockland's second-highest all-time in coaching wins. Previously: 9

7. Irvington (4-1-1)

After taking a tough season-opening 1-0 loss to Pearl River, the Bulldogs bounced back with four straight wins. The Bulldogs battled to a scoreless draw with Pleasantville in the heavy rain on Monday night, and they'll look to keep their unbeaten streak going. Previously: 8

T-5. Rye (2-1)

T-5. Pearl River (4-1)

They might've graduated a few key players from last season, but their tenacity on defense remains. The Pirates opened the season with four straight shutouts, before losing to Somers in a close 2-1 battle. Previously: 7

4. Scarsdale (1-1)

The Raiders were eager to finally get back on the field after an 18-day layoff due to bad luck with weather and various postponements. That excitement showed, as they posted a 4-0 victory over Clarkstown North in their return to action on Monday. Previously: 4

3. Arlington (4-0)

A couple of close calls for Arlington, but the Admirals have been tough on the pitch, gutting out a pair of 1-0 wins over Scarsdale and one in overtime against Clarkstown North. They haven't given up a goal yet. Previously: 3

2. Somers (4-0)

The Tuskers have lived up to the billing so far. They got shutouts over Pelham and Lakeland and held off other top 10-ranked teams Rye and Pearl River in feisty showdowns. More challenges are ahead, including a Saturday morning showdown with rival Yorktown, which has shown in the past that records don't matter. Previously: 2

1. Albertus Magnus (4-0-1)

The Falcons continued from where they left off against local competition. They posted three straight shutouts to start and seem to be well above the rest. A recent 1-1 draw with New Jersey power Immaculate Heart Academy will give them motivation to kick things up to another gear. Previously: 1
