Girls soccer: Four Orlando area teams enter postseason with undefeated records

Undefeated teams and defending state champions lead Orlando area girls soccer programs into FHSAA district tournament play this week.

Lake Mary (12-0-4), Hagerty (11-0-3) and Clermont East Ridge (12-0-2) are the top seeds in three different districts in Class 7A Region 1.

Lake Mary ended the regular season ranked No. 3 in 7A behind region opponents St. Johns Creekside (10-0-2) and Bartram Trail (12-4-1), according to FHSAA playoff power rankings.

Hagerty is No. 9 and East Ridge is No. 14 in 7A.

Oviedo (12-0-3), ranked No. 5 in 6A, holds a slim lead over Viera (11-1-1) for the top spot in Region 2.

Back-to-back defending champion Bishop Moore (8-6-2) is No. 4 in 4A with a 15.59 power rating.

Defending champ Montverde Academy (11-4-1, 19.65 rating) is No. 2 in 3A.

Both teams sit at No. 1 in their respective regions despite facing challenging slates during the regular season.

Bishop Moore’s strength-of-schedule rating (14.69) is the third-strongest in the state. Montverde’s is close behind at 14.31.

Girls soccer district tournaments play out over the next two weeks. Four district champions and four other teams based on FHSAA rankings advance to regional quarterfinals next month.

Below is a look at the Orlando area’s four undefeated teams. Ratings and strength of schedule are from FHSAA playoff power rankings.

Lake Mary

Rating: 19.36; SOS: 9.32.

Regular season: Rams opened with wins against Bishop Moore, Lake Brantley and Lake Highland Prep. Season included ties vs. Oviedo, Hagerty, Timber Creek and Winter Park. Senior Brooke Susi has 10 goals and 8 assists. Junior Lindsay Sheets has 9 goals and 7 assists.

Up next: 7A District 2 semifinal vs. Port Orange Spruce Creek (6-11-0) or Orange City University (3-12-1) on Friday at Daytona State College.

Oviedo

Rating: 16.73; SOS: 5.84.

Regular season: Lions enter districts on an 11-game win streak, which includes a 3-0 win at Lake Brantley and 1-0 win at Bishop Moore. Oviedo, which tallied 79 goals scored and 9 goals against, drew ties against Lake Mary, Hagerty and West Orange.

Up next: 6A District 5 semifinal vs. Edgewater (7-4-3) or Lyman (7-7-1) on Friday at Lake Howell.

Hagerty

Rating: 15.92; SOS: 5.27.

Regular season: Huskies own wins vs. Lake Highland Prep and Lake Brantley and ties against Lake Mary, Oviedo and Bishop Moore. Junior Valeria Romero and senior Megan O’Donnell have combined for 22 goals scored. Junior Olivia Cachat has 11 assists.

Up next: 7A District 4 semifinal Monday at home vs. Boone (10-3-0) or Orlando University (5-10-1).

East Ridge

Rating: 13.11; SOS: 1.18.

Regular season: Knights have outscored opponents by two goals or more in 11 of 14 matches. Senior Cayla Jackson leads the team with 30 goals and 19 assists. Senior Morgan Guiliemette has 16 goals and 16 assists and sophomore Avery Post has 7 goals and 14 assists.

Up next: 7A District 3 semifinal vs. Ocala West Port (10-5-0) or Apopka (4-7-2) on Tuesday at Lake Brantley.
