Girls golf: Scarsdale's Emma Lee is back on top of the Section 1 tournament leaderboard

Emma Lee is refusing to yield.

The defending champion opened the Section 1 tournament with an even-par 72 on Thursday at The Links at Unionvale and is heading into next week's final round holding a two-shot lead. The sophomore at Scarsdale came from four shots back to win last spring.

Ursuline has three golfers within five shots of the lead - Nina Choe (74), Julia Kret (77) and Sofia Nogalo (77).

A total of 21 players survived the cut, advancing to the final round on Wednesday at the Whippoorwill Club in Armonk where there will be nine spots on the state team up for grabs. Greeley's Julia Paek (78) and John Jay-Cross River's Mia Holbrook also broke 80.

Lee opened with eight consecutive pars in the morning chill before a bogey at the par-4 ninth. She offset two more bogeys on the back nine with three birdies.

Ursuline easily won the team championship with Choe, Kret, Nogalo and Sarah Brannigan (89) finishing 15 shots ahead of Scarsdale with a 317 total. Clarkstown (404) was third and Wappingers (435) finished in fourth place.
