Girls Best of the Week: Ridgedale takes four volleyball matches, plus Harding soccer wins

MORRAL — The Ridgedale volleyball team won three matches on Saturday to go unbeaten at its own Ridgedale Invitational.

In a 25-14, 25-15 win over Mount Gilead, Hannah Cook had 13 assists, Lilly Ruth eight kills and Hannah Murphy four aces for the Rockets. They beat Elgin 25-13, 25-12 with Cook getting 15 assists, Ruth 11 kills and Lauren Leslie 11 points and 10 digs. In a third match against East Knox, Ridgedale won 25-9, 25-18 as Cook handled 17 assists, Leslie 16 points and six kills and Richelle Gleespen 12 digs.

The Rockets also beat Temple Christian earlier in the week in a 3-0 result. Cook put together 16 assists and five aces, Brenda Scott six aces and six kills, Leslie 11 aces and 15 points and Ruth five aces and six kills.

More Volleyball

Elgin won a pair of matches in the Northwest Central Conference last week. In a 3-0 victory over Ridgemont, Maycee Muselin had 12 kills, Madelyn Ruth 25 assists and Delainy Boles three aces. In a 3-1 win over Cory-Rawson, Muselin and Jordan Wall both had 13 kills with Museling adding five blocks and Wall five aces. Ruth again handed out 25 assists with Gracie Isler coming up with 18 serve receptions, 14 digs and three aces.

● Cardington swept Mount Gilead 3-0. Abby Ufferman gave out 32 assists, Lundyn Blevins 16 digs, Alexis Longsdorf four aces and Lily Clark 13 kills.

In the previously reported 3-0 win by Pleasant over Marion Harding, Kenzley Davis paced the Spartans with 17 kills as Kamryn Cocherl had 15 kills, 11 digs and five aces, Emerson Williams 42 assists, Brooklin Davis eight kills and 13 digs and Sydney Smith 11 digs and four aces. .Nyla Sharp-Holmes led the Presidents with 15 digs and Addie Appelfeller with 10 assists.

● River Valley won its first match of the season, beating Mansfield Senior 25-15, 25-12 in a Saturday quad match. Carly Cerny served five aces and Camryn Rogers three aces for RV.

● Highland handled Ontario 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 with Kameron Stover getting 29 kills and 14 digs, Larsen Terrill 39 assists and six kills, Savanna Sanborn 21 digs and Camryn Miller 17 digs.

● North Union went 2-1 last week. The Wildcats beat Benjamin Logan 3-0 with Sienna Ballinger putting down 13 kills and three blocks with Zoe Wedding's 18 digs and 16 assists. In a 3-1 loss to Northwestern, Ballinger had 12 kills, Emma Padovano 11 kills, Lindsay Willis 19 digs and Wedding 16 sigs and 22 assists. NU toppled Fredericktown 3-1 with Ballinger getting 13 kills, Kennedy Harrah 21 digs and 18 assists and Wedding 19 assists.

● In Harding's 25-16, 25-23, 25-21 loss to Ontario, Sharp-Holmes posted 23 digs, Jaela Woods 13 digs and Emily Ratliff 12 kills.

Soccer

● Marion Harding rolled to an 8-1 victory over Cristo Rey at home. Gabby Neault had a hat trick with an assist, while Layla Schneider and Hailey Smith both had a goal and assist, and Suzannah Houpt, Paris James and Sidney Barkley all had a goal apiece.

● In a 6-1 loss to Buckeye Valley, River Valley's Gianna Alves scored off a corner kick from Gracyn Borders. Delaney Myers made 19 saves in goal for the Vikings.

Highland routed Franklin Heights 9-0 for its fourth straight win and ran its record to 5-4 this year. Bryn Orr scored four times and had two assists, while Amarie Morgan scored three times with three assists. Kynzie Green had a goal and assist, and Kiersten Holcomb scored once. Getting assists were Bryleigh Young, Ava Fichtner and Abby Hinkle. Kayley Smith saved three to post her third shutout of the season.

Tennis

● Marion Harding defeated Upper Sandusky 5-0 with Audrey Feasel, Raina Smith and Sierra Silverio winning in singles and Autumn Silverio/Sophie Beechum and Kaia Berry/Abbey Hoertz winning in doubles. In a 5-0 win against River Valley, the same players took points with Hoertz teaming with Abigail Hanke in second doubles. Smith and Sierra Silverio scored points for Harding in a 3-2 loss to league-leading Shelby.

● Pleasant beat Harding 3-2. For the Spartans, Maura Murphy and Hannah Miller won in singles and the first doubles team of Kylie Klaiber and Anya Miller also won. Smith and Sierra Silverio/Hanke took points for the Presidents.

Golf

● Pleasant won its third straight Colt Classic at Little Apple, shooting a 309. Maura Murphy was the meet medalist with a 1-over-par 65, while Maddie Murphy was fifth overall at 74. Anna Songer had an 84, Whitney Waddell an 86 and Calliope McNulty a 141.

● Highland was eighth as a team at the Colt Classic with a 398, but Ceci Grassbaugh was fourth with a 72. Sierra Fitzpatrick and Rylie Dewart both carded 105s, and Ellie Rhea had a 116. The Scots took third at the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference Tournament also held at Little Apple. Grassbaugh eagled and birdied in the final three holes to come back from five shots down and tie for the win with a 71. Fitzpatrick added a 99 and Dewart a 109.

● Northwestern edged North Union 208-210. Maddie Taylor fired a 49 for the Wildcats followed by a 53 from Kelsie Price, 54 from Kaylee Rensel, 56 from Savannah Queen and 59 from Brynn Spencer.

Cross Country

● Northmor finished sixth out of 19 teams in the Division III group of the Galion Cross Country Festival. Kate Lehman topped the Golden Knights with an 11th in 20:10 followed by Natalie Hunter (29th, 21:17), Ryann Brinkman (30th, 21:19), Haylee Walker (55th, 23:35), Shelby Cooper (82nd, 23:35) and Elizabeth Ruhl (93rd, 24:06).

● Also at Galion, Mount Gilead was eighth as Kimberly Staley was 19th in 20:36, Danielle Pohlkotte 37th in 21:48, Sophie Mosher 67th in 22:45, Ava Baker 73rd in 23:01, Haley Pfeifer 77th in 23:16 and Natalie Jagger 80th in 23:28.

● Casey Kimball led Pleasant with a 16th in 20:29, while also cracking the top 100 were Sarah Jordan (51st, 22:14), Whitley Baumgartner (78th, 23:17), Nicole Robinson (81st, 23:34) and Olivia Meyers (95th, 24:22).

● River Valley competed in the Division II race at Galion and was led by Addi Ebert's 24:14 for 60th.

● Marion Harding ran at the Central Ohio Invitational and took 13th. Leah Price was 14th for the Prexies in 20:17 and Lydia Price 78th in 22:31.

● North Union was second at the Triad Invitational. For the Wildcats, Kailin McElroy was sixth in 21:44, Lauren Hall seventh in 21:45, Kennedy Ludwig eighth in 22:11, Savannah Amstutz 15th in 23:48, Corajayne DeBoer 18th in 24:57, Josie Held 22nd in 25:49 and Madelyn Zimmerman 30th in 30:28.

● Highland was 12th out of 15 teams at the Falcon Invitational near Lancaster. Kindylle Mallow topped the team with a 41st in 22:28.
