Girls Basketball: Pairings, results, recaps for the District One tournament

The postseason is here, and District One tournaments began on Friday! Check out the matchups, final scores, photos and game recaps from all the Courier/Intell teams in the District One and District 12 playoffs right here. District One Championships

Class 6A (12 PIAA qualifiers):

Championship, Saturday, March 2

Semifinals, Wednesday, Feb. 28

No. 1 Perkiomen Valley 67, No. 5 North Penn 36

No. 6 Spring-Ford 55, No. 2 Conestoga 41

Quarterfinals, Saturday, Feb. 24

  • No. 1 Perkiomen Valley 54, No. 8 CB East 25: Anna Barry scored her 1,000th career point as the Patriots were tasked with a road game against top-seeded Perkiomen Valley. Quinn Boettinger and Grace Galbavy had 16 points apiece for PV. Jess Lockwood led the Patriots with 8 points, while Barry had 4. The Patriots will head to the playback tournament for state playoff seeding.

  • No. 5 North Penn 46, No. 4 Haverford 41: Caleigh Sperling continued her dominant postseason, scoring more than half of her team's points with a game-high 28 to lead the Knights over Haverford and into the district semifinals.

  • No. 6 Spring-Ford 44, No. 3 Upper Dublin 39

  • No. 2 Conestoga 54, No. 7 Garnet Valley 25

Second round, Wednesday, Feb. 21

  • No. 1 Perkiomen Valley 54, No. 16 Pennsbury 27: Sofia Vitucci scored 15 points for the Falcons, who had an unenviable matchup against top-seeded Perk Valley. Quinn Boettinger led PV with 22 points. Pennsbury will visit Neshaminy for a playback game, with only the winner advancing to states. Neshaminy won both regular-season matchups between the SOL Patriot Division rivals.

  • No. 8 CB East 48, No. 9 Neshaminy 39: The Patriots had lost to Neshaminy. 40-25, less than a month ago, but you wouldn’t have guessed that based on Wednesday’s quarterfinal. Anna Barry led the way with 17 points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line, while Sydney Ralph added 12 points. Chantal van Dongeren led the defense, holding Neshaminy’s top scorer to six points. The Patriots clinched a spot in the state playoffs and will visit top-seeded Perkiomen Valley in the quarterfinals. Lola Ibarrondo had 21 points for Neshaminy, in her sixth straight game with double-digit points. Neshaminy will host Pennsbury in a playback game.

  • No. 4 Haverford 54, No. 13 Abington 30: Jordyn Reynolds had nine points and Mikiaya Durham scored seven for the Ghosts, who had an uncharacteristic low-scoring outing against No. 4 Haverford. They also had to contend with Rian Dotsey, who scored 25 points for Haverford. Abington will visit No. 12 Kennett for a playback game.

  • No. 2 Conestoga 60, No. 18 CR South 33: Kathryn O’Kane led the Golden Hawks with 14 points, and Miranda Cantor had 11 in a tough road matchup against Conestoga. Janie Preston led Conestoga with 21 points. CRS will travel to No. 10 WC Henderson for a playback game.

  • No. 5 North Penn 51, No. 12 Kennett 27: Caleigh Sperling delivered for the Knights, dropping 23 points in the decisive win. Olivia Stone added 13 points and Cam Crowley had 13 in the win. The win clinched a spot in the PIAA state tournament for the Knights, who lost in the second round of districts last season as the No. 21 seed and didn’t make states.

  • No. 7 Garnet Valley 60, No. 10 WC Henderson 31

  • No. 3 Upper Dublin 60, No. 19 Penncrest 34 

  • No. 6 Spring-Ford 53, No. 11 Downingtown East 41

First round, Feb. 16

  • No. 16 Pennsbury 44, No. 17 Bensalem 24: Sofia Vitucci poured in 22 points to lead the Falcons to the victory over SOL Patriot Division opponent Bensalem. It was the eighth consecutive home playoff win for Pennsbury. While Bensalem’s season came to an end, the Owls had their most successful campaign in years, making the playoffs for the first time in five years, and finishing 15-9 after going 8-14 last season.   • No. 9 Neshaminy 42, No. 24 Ridley 31: Lola Ibarrondo led the way with 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers in the first half. Reese Zemitis, after a slow first half, scored all 10 of her points in the second half. Alena Cofield had five of her eight points in the first quarter to help Neshaminy to a 13-5 start.

  • No. 13 Abington 48, No. 20 Great Valley 36: After a close first quarter, the Ghosts took a 26-17 lead into halftime, with the cushion helping secure their first-round win. Mikaya Durham led the way with 12 points and five rebounds, while Maya Johnson ran the point, dishing six assists along with nine points and five steals. Jordyn Reynolds also had nine points in a balanced scoring effort.

  • No. 18 Council Rock South 43, No. 15 Unionville 40: The Golden Hawks won their first district playoff game since 2011 while on the road at Unionville. CRS trailed 20-15 at halftime, but Fiona Reckner scored seven points in the third to tie the game. Kathryn O’Kane had six points in the fourth quarter, going 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Liliana Metrick paced the Golden Hawks with 12 points, while Reckner had 11 and O’Kane finished with 10.

  • No. 10 WC Henderson 45, No. 23 CB South 32: Mia Klein led the Titans with 12 points, while Yoyo Samayoa added 10 for the Titans, who finished their season with a 12-11 record.

  • No. 19 Penncrest 60, No. 14 Coatesville 59

  • No. 11 Downingtown East 36, No. 22 Downingtown West 18

  • No. 12 Kennett 42, No. 21 Plymouth Whitemarsh 37

  • No. 9 Bishop Shanahan 47, No. 1 Gwynedd Mercy 44: Emilia Coleman had a game-high 22 points for the Monarchs, who were edged in an upset. The Monarchs defeated Lower Moreland and then Radnor in the playback tournament to secure the fifth-seed in the state playoffs.

  • No. 4 WC Rustin 61, No. 5 Lower Moreland 33

  • No. 6 Villa Maria 53, No. 3 Radnor 38

  • No. 2 WC East 51, No. 7 Phoenixville 42

First round, Friday, Feb. 16

  • No. 9 Bishop Shanahan 67, No. 8 Upper Moreland 55: Lianna Adames had 16 points for UM, but the Golden Bears ran into a Bishop Shanahan team that was hot from the 3-point line. Holly Gohl had 15 points and Mikel Lancit scored 12. Gohl concluded her high school career as Upper Moreland’s fourth all-time scorer with 1,220 career points. First-year head coach Josh Adelman led the team to an impressive 15-8 record.

  • No. 5 Lower Moreland 55, No. 12 Upper Merion 41

  • No. 7 Phoenixville 57, No. 10 Chester

Class 4A (1 PIAA qualifier):

Championship, Saturday, Feb. 24

No. 1 Villa Joseph Marie 47, No. 3 Pope John Paul II 23

Semifinals, Tuesday, Feb. 20

  • No. 1 Villa Joseph Marie 70, No. 4 Springfield 67: Ava Gummieny’s incredible 30-point performance secured the Jems win over Springfield and a trip to the Class 4A championship game. Gummieny hit three 3-pointers and nine free throws in the high-scoring semifinal. VJM will face No. 3 Pope John Paul II in the championship; the teams didn’t meet in the regular season.

  • No. 3 Pope John Paul II 54, No. 2 MaST Charter 31

Class 3A (1 PIAA qualifier):

Championship, Saturday, Feb. 24

No. 2 New Hope Solebury 49, No. 1 Renaissance Academy 27

For the second year in a row, the New Hope-Solebury Lions are District One Class 3A champions. Izzy Elizondo led the way on offense, scoring 24 points for the second straight playoff game. Emily Wilson scored 12 points, while Nina Meizler contributed nine rebounds and eight assists.

Semifinals, Tuesday, Feb. 20

  • No. 2 New Hope 50, No. 3 Morrisville 30: Izzy Elizondo poured in 24 points to lead the Lions to the Class 3A semifinal victory over Morrisville. Elizondo scored 11 points in the first quarter, as the Lions took a 23-2 lead, and had six three-pointers in the win. Emily Wilson added 13 points for NHS. The Lions will face top-seeded Renaissance Academy in the championship game. The two teams didn’t meet in the regular season.

  • No. 1 Renaissance Academy 45, No. 4 Bristol 21

Class 2A (2 PIAA qualifiers):

Championship, Saturday, Feb. 24

  • No. 2 Sacred Heart 53, No. 4 Delco Christian 36
