Girls basketball: Middlesex runs into Shore again in Central Group 1 final
Junior Jessica Devine scored a game-high 19 points, and classmate Lexi Demeter added seven points Saturday, but the top-seeded Middlesex girls basketball team fell to third-seeded, three-time defending champion Shore in the final of the Central Group 1 Tournament at Middlesex High School.
Kimi Sayson netted 13 points and Conley Smolokoff added 12 points for the Blue Devils, who will take on Wildwood in the state semifinals on Wednesday. It’s Shore’s third straight sectional crown and the second straight season the Blue Jays were their victim in the final.

Shore (17-11) opened a 24-15 lead by halftime and never relented, although Middlesex (17-14) did make a fourth-quarter push.
