Former Cincinnati Bearcats offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli was named the quarterbacks coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the school announced Wednesday.

Guidugli, 39, was named Wisconsin's passing game coordinator/tight ends coach Jan. 6, about five weeks after former UC head coach Luke Fickell was named the Badgers' new head coach.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman was UC's defensive coordinator under Fickell from 2017 to 2020, while Guidugli served as the Bearcats' running backs coach (in 2017), QBs coach (in 2018 and 2019) and passing game coordinator (in 2020). Guidugli was UC's offensive coordinator last season.

Guidugli, who starred at Highlands High School before playing quarterback at UC from 2001 to 2004, reportedly was among finalists for the Western Michigan University Broncos head coaching vacancy in December. Some had endorsed Guidugli as a UC candidate before the Bearcats named Scott Satterfield head coach.

Tommy Rees, Notre Dame's QBs coach from 2017 to 2022, left last month to become Alabama's offensive coordinator and QBs coach.
