Giants select Jaylen Waddle in latest The Sporting New mock draft

For weeks, there has been lacking consistency when it comes to the New York Giants and who experts believe they will select at No. 11 overall in the 2021 NFL draft.

In recent days however, a sudden sense of continuity has emerged.

Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has begun to dominate the No. 11 spot in most mock drafts and that continued on Sunday evening when Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News released his latest version.

11. New York Giants (6-10)

Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama (5-10, 182 pounds)

Waddle, like his Crimson Tide teammate Smith, is a highly skilled all-around receiver the Giants could use to run routes and get open everywhere outside for Daniel Jones. They should think about moving on from Golden Tate in the slot, putting Sterling Shepard and there and have Darius Slayton complement Waddle well as a deep threat.

Previously, Iyer had the Giants drafting Miami edge rusher Gregory Rousseau — another popular mock to the Giants — but clearly jumped on the wide receiver bandwagon.

In this projection, the pick of Waddle comes with Rousseau and Florida tight end Kyle Pitts still on the board, but many other potential Giants targets gone.

As we’ve noted previously, Waddle would fix a dire need for the Giants but there is reason to be concerned about his size. He’s on the shorter side and would join an already somewhat undersized unit.
