Giants to put SS Crawford on paternity leave

The San Francisco Giants will be without another key member of their infield for a few days this week as shortstop Brandon Crawford goes on paternity leave.

Crawford's wife, Jalynne, is due to give birth to the couple's fourth child.

Manager Bruce Bochy said the club will make the move on Monday, one day before third baseman Evan Longoria is due to undergo hand surgery that will sideline him for six to eight weeks.

Crawford is batting .317 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs this season. He's not expected to miss more than a few games.

A replacement on the roster hasn't been announced.
