“With your addition to this team, is it a fair expectation to see a clear pathway towards a World Cup competition come out of Chicago?”

Confusion. A lot of perplexed facial expressions. A lot of cringing from fans watching. But the reporter had another go:

“Let me rephrase, do you expect, now that you’re here, Bastian, that a World Cup goal for Chicago Fire is a realistic expectation?”

On the morning of the 2018 World Cup Draw, where the 32 participating nations will learn their group matchups, a legend running the German national team’s English-language Twitter account had a little fun at that reporter’s expense:

The U.S. won’t even be participating in the 2018 World Cup or the World Cup Draw, but it has already lost the day.

The World Cup Draw begins at 10 a.m. ET Friday. Viewers in the U.S. can watch on Fox Sports 1 or Telemundo.
