Georgia softball can't slow UCLA superstar Maya Brady in opener of Los Angeles Super Regional

Georgia softball couldn't stop PAC-12 Player of the Year Maya Brady Thursday night and fell to UCLA in the opening game of the Los Angeles Super Regional, 8-0.

The first in the best-of-3 series was short and snappy, with Brady bombing a home run to lead off the Bruins' home half of the first inning. She was brought home on an RBI single to right field by Jadelyn Allchin in the bottom of the third inning to add a second score.

It was Brady again who upped the ante in the bottom of the fifth inning when she sent another rocket over the left field wall for her second homer of the day. The redshirt-senior now has 71 home runs in her career, with 22 games of two or more. She finished the night 3-for-4 with 3 runs and a pair of RBIs.

Jordan Woolery smashed an RBI double to bring home Gabriela Jaquez and Allchin in the bottom of the fifth inning as well, and Savannah Pola did the same in the bottom of the sixth inning with Allchin and Taylor Stephens, too. Georgia was beaten out with no answer.

For UGA, Sydney Kuma, Jayda Kearney, Dallis Goodnight and Emily Digby each had a hit in their appearances at the plate. Lilli Backes allowed 6 runs on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

The Bulldogs have a chance for redemption on Friday at 10 p.m. ET. If they beat UCLA, they will play a third game on Saturday, time still to be determined. If they lose, they will be out of the Women's College World Series running.
