Georgia football vs. Kentucky series history

The Georgia Bulldogs have won 13 straight football games over the Kentucky Wildcats. Both teams enter the 2023 edition of Georgia-Kentucky with 5-0 records. Georgia is the No. 1 team in the country and Kentucky is No. 20.

Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops has done an excellent job in rebuilding the Wildcats’ program, but he has been unable to knock off SEC East foe Georgia.

The Bulldogs have played some physical games against the Wildcats over the years. The Kentucky game certainly isn’t easy for Georgia. No team does a better job of shutting down the Georgia offense than Kentucky. Unfortunately for Wildcat fans, Georgia’s defense clamps down on Kentucky’s offense year after year.

Kentucky earned a big win over Florida last week and have a lot of momentum entering the Georgia-Kentucky game. Could the 2023 edition of Georgia-Kentucky be the Wildcats’ first win over Georgia in a long time?

Let’s take a look at the series history between Georgia and Kentucky.

Kentucky’s defense limited the Georgia offense on a cold November day last season. Georgia’s rushing game, which racked up 247 rushing yards, helped the Bulldogs keep Kentucky at bay. Georgia running back Kenny McIntosh ran for 143 rushing yards and a touchdown in Georgia’s win.

Kentucky quarterback Will Levis helped keep things interesting, but the Wildcats could not make it a one-score game in the fourth quarter.

No. 1 Georgia hosted No. 11 Kentucky in a battle of undefeated SEC East teams back in 2021. Georgia scored a pair of second quarter touchdowns, but Kentucky quarterback Will Levis and the Wildcats answered with a touchdown of their own.

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers, who will play against the Wildcats again in 2023, took over in the second half as Georgia built up a 30-7 lead. The Wildcats ended the game with a lengthy, bizarre 22-play drive that took over 11 minutes and resulted in a Kentucky touchdown to end the game.

Georgia defeated Kentucky in a slugfest back in 2020. The Wildcats are a much more physical team under Mark Stoops and did not allow many opportunities for the Georgia offense.

Stetson Bennett and Georgia football emerged victorious, but it came at a price. Georgia lost numerous key players to injuries and did not have offensive momentum entering the Florida game, which Georgia went on to lose.

In 2019, Georgia played Kentucky in one of the rainiest games in Sanford Stadium history. The Dawgs and Wildcats both failed to score any points in the first half. Running back D’Andre Swift and the Georgia rushing offense helped Georgia control the second half on a day when passing was almost impossible.

Georgia’s defense dominated as UGA allowed only two completed passes all game. Kentucky started Lynn Bowden, who was primarily a receiver, at quarterback.

Georgia football leads the all-time series 62-12-2 over Kentucky. Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is 7-0 against Kentucky. Georgia has never lost more than two games in a row to the Wildcats.

Mark Stoops has helped turn around the Kentucky program. The Wildcats have won more than half their games under Stoops. No other Kentucky coach has won over half of their games since the 1960s. Yet, Kentucky is still looking to beat Georgia in the Mark Stoops era.
