Georgia basketball fills opening on coaching staff with assistant from ACC
Georgia basketball has filled the opening on Mike White’s staff by hiring an assistant coach from an ACC school.
White hired Boston College coach Anthony Goins to fill the opening when assistant coach Akeem Miskdeen left in April to join the new Michigan staff, according to an announcement Friday afternoon.
Goins, 37, spent the past three seasons at Boston College which went 20-16 and reached the second round of the NIT this past season.
Goins spent the previous two seasons at Clemson where he worked with current Georgia assistant coach Antonio Reynolds Dean. Goins worked with the point guards with the Tigers and was part of a staff that guided the team to the NCAA Tournament.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join Georgia Basketball,” Goins said in a statement. “Coach White and his staff have done an unbelievable job building the Georgia program the past two years. I could feel the energy and momentum the moment I got on campus. I’m extremely appreciative of Coach White for giving me the opportunity. Coach (Earl) Grant, the staff and everyone around Boston College have been unbelievable the past three years, but I can’t wait to get to work in Athens!”
Goins also has served as an assistant at Quinnipiac and Yale. He was a practice player at St. Johns.
Goins grew up in Greensboro, N.C., and Chesapeake, Va., and also served an assistant coach at Salisbury Prep School in Connecticut and was on staff at Dartmouth.
