Georgia baseball to host NCAA Regional at Foley Field in Athens

Georgia baseball will host an NCAA Regional at Foley Field for the first time since 2019.

The official word of a widely expected regional at home for the Bulldogs came Sunday night when Athens was one of 16 sites selected to host a four-team regional.

The complete 64-team field will be released Monday during a selection show that starts at 12 p.m. on ESPN2.

The Bulldogs will learn then the other three teams that will take part in the regional that runs Friday through Monday.

The big question remaining is if the Bulldogs will be a top 8 national seed which will ensure the Bulldogs would play in Athens for the Super Regional the following week if Georgia advances.

Projections from Baseball America and D1Baseball on Sunday had the Bulldogs as the No. 9 seed. Florida State was No. 8 by Baseball America and Oklahoma by D1Baseball.

Georgia, ranked No. 9 in the latest USA TODAY Sports coaches poll, will enter the NCAA Tournament with a 39-15 record, but on a three-game losing streak. The Bulldogs dropped the final two games to Florida to end the regular season and lost 9-1 to LSU on Tuesday in the SEC Tournament.

Georgia on Sunday night ranked No. 6 in the nation in RPI with the No. 9 strength of schedule, according to WarrenNolan.com.
