Gators hosting elite 2024 offensive tackle for matchup with LSU

One of the top offensive tackles in the class of 2024 took to Twitter on Monday to announce an upcoming trip to the University of Florida. Four-star Centennial (Roswell, Georgia) offensive tackle Daniel Calhoun will be in the Swamp over the weekend to see the Gators take on the utigerswire.com, according to his post.

Calhoun is just the latest name to join an elite list of visitors for the upcoming weekend. The Gators haven’t hosted recruits on official visits up until this point, and this is supposed to be the biggest recruiting weekend of the Billy Napier era so far. The class of 2024 can’t take officials right now, but plenty of top-100 recruits will get the full treatment in hopes of securing one of those highly coveted official visits next year.

Such is the case with Calhoun. Florida is trying to make some headway in the race for the Peach State recruit, but plenty of SEC schools are doing the same thing, with Georgia predictably at the top of the assumed pecking order. On3 gives the Bulldogs the best odds to land Calhoun at 41.4%, and Auburn (22.%), Alabama (18.9%) and Tennessee (5.6%) aren’t too far behind. Florida currently has no odds listed, but that should change after this visit.

Calhoun’s been to the Swamp before but never on a game day, let alone the LSU game. His most recent stop by UF came in June, but he’s since stopped by Alabama, Auburn and Georgia and Tennessee to see how those programs operate when it’s time to take the field. With those teams in mind, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Calhoun wind up in the SEC, and Florida would rather scheme for him than against him.

Wherever he lands, he’ll be a valuable addition and potential anchor on the offensive line.

The 247Sports composite ranks Calhoun at No. 63 overall and No. 3 among offensive tackles in the class of 2024. On3 is a bit more bearish on Calhoun, ranking him at No. 144 overall and No. 12 at his position, but he does land at No. 70 on the consensus rankings. He grades out as a four-star recruit, according to all four major services.
