Gastonia, Shelby area high school top performers: Lincolnton's Lyerly logs triple-double

Here is a daily list of the top performers from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties during the third week of winter sports action.

Our weekly top performers list and athlete of the week nominees are compiled courtesy of information provided to The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star by coaches, athletic directors or team statisticians through emails, MaxPreps or mentioning @JoeLHughesII in game results and highlights posted to Twitter.

Tye Clay, Burns: Led his team with 12 points in a 67-48 loss to Kings Mountain.

Jeremiah Norris, Burns: Had 10 points.

Kamari Surratt, Burns: Scored 10 points.

Landon Aungst, East Lincoln: Scored 12 points in an 81-71 loss to Lincolnton.

Jackson Fannon, East Lincoln: Led his team with 21 points.

Houston Hartsell, East Lincoln: Scored 11 points.

Davis Hill, East Lincoln: Scored 14 points.

Cross Arias, Lincolnton: Had 11 points in an 81-71 win over East Lincoln. The victory snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Mustangs.

Landon Lyerly, East Lincoln: Had 14 points.

Griffen Simpson, Gaston Day: Had 13 points in a 74-49 loss to Northside Christian.

Bradley Floyd, Kings Mountain: Led his team with 27 points in a 67-48 win over Burns.

Tucker Robinette, Kings Mountain: Had 14 points.

Tyler McClain, Lincolnton: Scored 11 points.

L.J. Smith, Lincolnton: Led his team with 33 points.

Khalil Yarborough, Lincolnton: Scored 12 points in a 69-59 loss to Lake Norman.

Carson Engstrand, North Lincoln: Earned his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, along with five assists and three steals.

Kellen Karr, North Lincoln: Had 10 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two blocks.

Ty Sanders, North Lincoln: Scored 12 points.

Girls basketball

Tionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Had 13 points in a 67-27 loss to Forestview.

Maggie Earl, Burns: Led her team with 16 points in a 43-17 win over Kings Mountain.

Kaylee Greene, Burns: Had 12 points.

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln: Had 25 points, eight steals, seven assists and four rebounds in a 70-19 win over Lincolnton. The Lady Mustangs are off to a 3-0 start.

Neveah Atkins, East Lincoln: Scored 10 points.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: Had 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks.

Amani Neely, Forestview: Led her team with 25 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 67-27 win over Bessemer City.

Tralyn Phillips, Forestview: Had 15 points, five assists and two steals.

Happy Arune, Gaston Christian: Earned a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds along with three blocks, three steals and two assists in a 43-33 win over Hickory Grove Christian.

Jessica Williams Gaston Christian: Had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Addie McCraw, Highland Tech: Earned a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds in a 35-28 win over Bradford Prep.

Reese Thomas, Highland Tech: Earned a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Ashlyn Black, North Lincoln: Had 11 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Addison Grice, North Lincoln: Had 15 points, five rebounds and three steals.

Hailey Hagler, North Lincoln: Led her team with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Ally Smith, North Lincoln: Scored 16 points to go with seven steals, five assists and three rebounds.

Thursday, Nov. 30

Girls basketball

Lyric Brown, Piedmont Community Charter: Led her team with 13 points in a 55-13 win over Langtree Charter.

Wednesday, Nov. 29

Boys basketball

Jay Gaddy, Bessemer City: Had 15 rebounds in a 49-46 win over North Gaston. The win was the first for Bessemer City coach and Yellow Jacket alum Marcus Barnette.

Cordarious Glenn, Bessemer City: Had a team-high 17 points.

McKennon Showers, Lincoln Charter: Had 15 points in a 92-44 loss to 1 of 1 Academy.

Kola Abudu, Mountain Island Charter: Had 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist in an 83-47 win over Union Academy.

Christian Jones, Mountain Island Charter: Led his team with 21 points to go with five assists and three steals.

Jayden Massey, Mountain Island Charter: Scored 10 points, along with four rebounds, four steals and an assist.

Caleb Nesbitt, Mountain Island Charter: Scored 15 points, in addition to eight rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.

Kellen Karr, North Lincoln: Scored 36 points in a 74-51 win over Forestview.

Girls basketball

Kionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Scored 37 points in a 59-42 loss to North Gaston.

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln: Had a team-high 23 points, six steals, five rebounds and four assists in an 86-15 win over Kings Mountain.

Nevaeh Atkins, East Lincoln: Scored 11 points.

Brooklyn Miller, East Lincoln: Scored 10 points.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: Earned a double-double with 20 points and 10 steals, along with five rebounds, five assists and three blocks.

Lane Pethel, East Lincoln: Scored 12 points.

Amani Neely, Forestview: Finished with a team-high 12 points, along with seven rebounds, four steals and two assists in a 67-58 loss to North Lincoln.

Tralyn Phillips, Forestview: Had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Blair Riley, Forestview: Earned a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, along with three blocks and a steal.

Whitney Brown, North Gaston: Earned a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds in a 59-42 victory over Bessemer City.

Jaleila Littlejohn, North Gaston: Scored 25 points to go with seven steals and five assists.

Ashlyn Black, North Lincoln: Had 12 points, five rebounds, six steals and four assists in a 67-58 win over Forestview.

Addison Grice, North Lincoln: Earned a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, along with two steals.

Ally Smith, North Lincoln: Had 14 points, eight assists, seven steals and six rebounds.

Dereon Kee, Shelby: Scored in double figures to lead the Lady Lions to a 52-34 victory over Veritas Christian Academy. Shelby’s victory was also the first in the coaching career of Carley Tallent.

Wrestling

Khadin Boone, Ashbrook: Earned victories via fall at 175 pounds. The Green Wave wrestling team swept its tri-match with East Gaston (48-27) and East Lincoln (64-18).

Abel Feliciano, Ashbrook: Earned a 7-3 decision at 165 pounds against East Gaston.

Caleb Gordon, Ashbrook: Earned wins via fall at 215 pounds.

J.J. Gordon, Ashbrook: Earned a fall against East Lincoln at 165 pounds.

Maveric Monteith, Ashbrook: Competing at 132 pounds, he earned a fall against East Gaston, followed by a technical fall against East Lincoln.

Jonathan Moore, Ashbrook: Earned wins via fall in the heavyweight division.

Jaycob Perez, Ashbrook: Won a 7-3 decision at 113 pounds against East Gaston, before earning a fall against East Lincoln.

Brooks Pollards, Ashbrook: Earned wins via fall at 126 pounds.

Letrasky Pressley, Ashbrook: Earned wins via fall at 190 pounds.

Elijah Saunders, Bessemer City: Earned wins via fall in the heavyweight division. Bessemer City fell in its tri-match to Lincoln Charter (62-12) and Hunter Huss (53-21).

Kaiden Deaton, Crest: Earned falls at 126 pounds against Chesnee and T.C. Roberson, while taking a 16-12 decision against Lincolnton. Crest fell as a team to Chesnee (54-30), Lincolnton (65-15) and T.C. Roberson (66-17).

Carson Wince, Crest: The 175-pound grappler earned his 100th career win at Wednesday’s quad against Chesnee, Lincolnton and T.C. Roberson. He earned falls in each of his three matches.

Hunter Digh, East Gaston: Earned a technical fall victory at 150 pounds against Ashbrook, before winning via fall against East Lincoln. The Warriors fell to Ashbrook 48-27, but rebounded for a 54-27 win over East Lincoln.

Curtis Helms, East Gaston: Won via fall at 144 pounds against East Lincoln.

Tommy Price, East Gaston: Earned a 12-2 major decision win over Ashbrook

Brandon Wyatt, East Gaston: Earned two victories via fall at 157 pounds.

David Grigg, East Lincoln: Earned victories via fall at 120 pounds against Ashbrook and East Gaston. His team fell in a tri-match 54-27 to East Gaston, while suffering a 48-27 loss to Ashbrook.

Wesley Gunn, Hunter Huss: Earned wins via fall at 190 pounds. Hunter Huss split its tri-match, earning a 53-21 win over Bessemer City and a 43-33 loss to Lincoln Charter.

Omar McKinney, Hunter Huss: Won by way of a 4-2 decision at 144 pounds over Lincoln Charter.

Chavis Mitchell, Hunter Huss: Earned a win via fall at 132 pounds against Lincoln Charter, in addition to a victory by forfeit against Bessemer City.

Dayveion Kenan, Hunter Huss: Earned a fall at 144 pounds against Bessemer City.

Tyquan Presson, Hunter Huss: Earned a win via fall at 215 pounds against Lincoln Charter, in addition to a victory by forfeit against Bessemer City.

Caleb Deaton, Lincolnton: Earned two wins via fall, and another by forfeit at 150 pounds. The Wolves’ wrestling team swept its quad with Crest (65-15), Chesnee (36-30) and T.C. Roberson (51-25).

Nehemiah Lynch, Lincolnton: Earned falls in each of his three matches at 132 pounds.

Isaac Powell, Lincolnton: The 113-pound grappler earned a technical fall against Crest, a 6-1 decision against Chesnee and a fall against T.C. Roberson.

Gabriel Robinson, Lincolnton: Won via fall against T.C. Roberson, a 3-2 decision against Chesnee and another win by forfeit at 165 pounds.

Geviaunta Walker, Lincolnton: Earned falls in two matches, in addition to a win via forfeit at 285 pounds.

Christopher Aparicio, Lincoln Charter: Won by major decision at 150 pounds against Hunter Huss, in addition to a technical fall victory over Bessemer City.

Tanner Berg, Lincoln Charter: Earned a win via fall at 120 pounds against Hunter Huss, in addition to a victory by forfeit against Bessemer City.

Jack Casey, Lincoln Charter: Earned a win via fall at 165 pounds against Hunter Huss, in addition to a victory by forfeit against Bessemer City. The Eagles swept their tri-match with Hunter Huss (43-33) and Bessemer City (62-12).

Garrison Dull, Lincoln Charter: Earned a pair of wins by decision.

Zachary Gilliam, Lincoln Charter: Earned a win via fall at 126 pounds against Hunter Huss, in addition to a victory by forfeit against Bessemer City.

Tyklen Negroni, Lincoln Charter: Earned a win via fall at 106 pounds against Hunter Huss, in addition to a victory by forfeit against Bessemer City.

Ryan Johnson, Mountain Island Charter: Earned victories at 106 pounds. The Raptors fell as a team, however, losing to South Stanly (51-30) and Central Davidson (63-18) in a tri-match.

Hashimi Cole, North Gaston: Earned two wins via fall at 106 pounds. The Wildcats’ wrestling team scored a 46-33 win over Hibriten and a 40-37 loss to North Lincoln.

Dewayne Davis, North Gaston: Earned two wins via fall at 215 pounds.

Tripp Norwood, North Gaston: Earned two wins via fall at 175 pounds.

Jacob Powell, North Gaston: Won via fall against Hibriten, along with a win by way of a 7-4 decision at 165 pounds.

James Weaver, North Gaston: Earned a win via fall, with another by way of an 11-3 major decision at 157 pounds.

Gage Helms, North Gaston: Earned two wins via fall at 144 pounds. The Knights’ wrestling team swept matches against North Gaston (40-37) and Hibriten (53-28).

Kaden Helms, North Lincoln: Earned two wins via fall at 132 pounds.

Till Helms, North Lincoln: Earned two wins via fall 138 pounds.

Dean Quilla, North Lincoln: Wrestling at 126 pounds, he earned a win via fall against North Gaston and forfeit over Hibriten.

Christian Heffner, Stuart Cramer: Earned wins via fall at 215 pounds. The Storm earned victories over Hopewell (66-18) and Weddington (36-27) in their tri-match.

Alexander Iannacone, Stuart Cramer: Earned wins via fall at 144 pounds.

Landon Jordon, Stuart Cramer: Won via fall in the heavyweight division over Hopewell, in addition to earning a decision over Weddington.

Cooper McMillan, Stuart Cramer: Won via fall at 157 pounds over Hopewell, in addition to a forfeit victory over Weddington.

Luke Robinson Stuart Cramer: Won via fall at 120 pounds over Hopewell, in addition to a victory at 113 pounds following a Weddington forfeit.

Bentley Sly, Stuart Cramer: Earned wins via fall at 138 pounds.

Christopher Wurster, Stuart Cramer: Won via fall at 190 pounds over Hopewell, in addition to earning a decision over Weddington.

Isaac Byers, Ashbrook: Led his team with 21 points in a 76-66 win over East Gaston.

Kenneth Greene Jr., Ashbrook: Had 13 points.

Jazari Hall, Ashbrook: Had 14 points.

Jamarion Patton, Ashbrook: Scored 13 points.

Makoi Mabor Marier, Gaston Christian: Earned a double-double with 24 points and 22 rebounds, along with seven blocks, five assists and a steal in his team’s 85-66 win over Northside Christian. He finished 11-of-15 from the floor.

Cameron Newman, Gaston Christian: Earned a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to go with an assist and a steal. He was 3-of-5 from 3-point range.

Joe Rhyne, Gaston Christian: Scored 19 points to go with four rebounds, five assists and a steal.

Deshawn Coulter, Gaston Day: Scored 14 points in a 76-61 win over Westminster Catawba.

Kurt Hunter, Gaston Day: Had 11 points.

Chase Owens, Gaston Day: Led his team with 17 points.

Griffen Simpson, Gaston Day: Scored 13 points.

Braylen Todd, Gaston Day: Scored 15 points.

Yoelle Mussie, Highland Tech: Scored 15 points and had eight rebounds in a 65-58 loss to West Mecklenburg.

Ethan Hutchins, Burns: Earned a fall at 126 pounds.
