Gastonia, Shelby area high school top performers: South Point's Graham earns double-double

Here are top performers from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties for winter sports during the week of Jan. 2-6, 2024.

Friday, Jan. 5

Boys basketball

Jackson Fannon, East Lincoln: Scored a game-high 28 points in an 80-72 loss to Statesville.

Houston Hartsell, East Lincoln: Scored 12 points.

Davis Hill, East Lincoln: Scored 11 points.

Grant Lawless, East Lincoln: Earned a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Yoel Mussie, Highland Tech: Scored 11 points and had three rebounds in a 64-55 win over Thomas Jefferson.

Elijah Sherrill, Highland Tech: Scored 28 points to go with eight rebounds.

Elijah Whitted, Highland Tech: Scored 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Z-Man Gladden, Hunter Huss: Scored 13 points in a 61-57 double-overtime loss to Shelby.

Zii Phillips, Hunter Huss: Led the Huskies with 14 points.

Carson Engstrand, North Lincoln: Had 11 points in a 76-70 loss to Hickory.

Kellen Karr, North Lincoln: Scored 12 points and eight rebounds.

Caleb Kidd, North Lincoln: Scored 19 points.

Ty Sanders, North Lincoln: Had 13 points.

John Carmichael, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 12 points, four rebounds and four steals in a 78- 69 win over Valor Prep.

Bobby Erwin, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 25 points, eight rebounds, six assists and five steals.

Victor Plessmoses, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 10 points, five steals, three assists and three steals.

Xavier Wilcher, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 16 points and seven rebounds.

Dominique Downs, Shelby: Had 11 points in a 61-57 double-overtime win over Hunter Huss.

Denorris Gist, Shelby: Finished with 13 points. He scored nine of those in the fourth quarter and overtime, including a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to send the game to extra frames.

Drew Hollifield, Shelby: Led the Golden Lions with 22 points.

Girls basketball

Kionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, along with eight steals, five assists and three blocks in a 42-21 win over East Gaston.

Tionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Earned a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to go with six steals and three assists.

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln: Recorded a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds, along with four assists, three steals and a block in a 78-14 win over Statesville.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: Had 27 points, eight rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block.

Lane Pethel, East Lincoln: Earned a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Savanni Harris, Hunter Huss: Scored 13 points in a 47-39 win over Shelby.

Myla Hoover, Hunter Huss: Led her team with 20 points.

Brooklyn Swann, Hunter Huss: Had 14 points,

Lyric Brown, Piedmont Community Charter: Led her team with 14 points in a 63-10 win over Valor Prep.

Bree Phillips, Piedmont Community Charter: Scored 10 points.

Sydnie Enste, Shelby: Led the Lady Lions with 16 points in a 47-39 loss to Hunter Huss.

Claire Frank, South Point: Led the Lady Raiders with 12 points in a 43-20 win over York (South Carolina).

Amya Graham, South Point: Recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Hailey Hagler, North Lincoln: Scored a team-high 17 points to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 46-44 loss to Hickory.

Ally Smith, North Lincoln: Had 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Wednesday, Jan. 3

Boys basketball

Lance Beam, Burns: Scored a team-high 15 points in a 63-47 win over Highland Tech.

Tye Clay, Burns: Had 10 points.

Colby Putnam, Burns: Scored 12 points.

Kamari Surratt, Burns: Had 10 points.

Elijah Sherrill, Highland Tech: Led the Rams with 21 points in a 67-43 loss at Burns.

Elijah Whitted, Highland Tech: Scored 14 points to go with six assists.

Caleb Nixon, Kings Mountain: Led the Mountaineers with 21 points along with seven rebounds in a 72-60 loss at Weddington.

Tucker Robinette, Kings Mountain: Scored 14 points.

Denorris Gist, Shelby: Led the Golden Lions with 10 points in a 60-37 win over Cherryville.

Girls basketball

Kionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Earned a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds, along with six assists, five steals and three blocks in a 51-46 loss to Thomas Jefferson.

Tionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Earned a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

Kaylee Greene, Burns: Led the Lady Bulldogs with 20 points in a 52-20 win over Highland Tech.

Esynce Howze, Burns: Scored 11 points.

Da’Mani French, Shelby: Led the Golden Lions with 20 points to go with nine rebounds and four steals in a 73-19 win over Cherryville.

Dereon Kee, Shelby: Scored 19 points to go with five steals.

Maddie Frank, South Point: Scored 10 points in a 66-47 win over Fort Mill (South Carolina) Catawba Ridge.

Amya Graham, South Point: Earned a double-double with 35 points and 17 rebounds.

Tuesday, Jan. 2

Boys basketball

A.J. Adams, Crest: Had 13 points and five assists in the Chargers’ 71-47 win over East Rutherford.

Cal Pass Jr., Crest: Had 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Lyrik Pettis, Crest: Scored 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

King Rhodes, Crest: Earned a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Gabriel Mabor Marier, Gaston Christian: Earned a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 57-55 loss to Westminster Catawba Christian.

Cam Newman, Gaston Christian: Scored 20 points to go with five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Girls basketball

Nevaeh Blackwell, Crest: Had 10 points in her team’s 59-44 loss to East Rutherford.

Happy Arune, Gaston Christian: Earned a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds in a 40-28 loss to Westminster Catawba Christian.

Yiling Wu, Gaston Christian: Scored 13 points.
