Gastonia, Shelby area high school fall sports top performers for Week 10 of 2023 season

This is a daily list of top performers from area teams, compiled courtesy of information provided to The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star by coaches, athletic directors and team statisticians through emails, MaxPreps and Twitter.

Wednesday, Oct. 18

Volleyball

Kaela Bryson, Piedmont Community Charter: Had three aces and a kill in a 3-0 win over Queen’s Grant to claim the Metro 8 Conference tournament title.

Chloe Downey, Piedmont Community Charter: Had three kills.

Addison Key, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 11 kills and five aces.

Madelyn Wyatt, Piedmont Community Charter: Had four kills.

Boys soccer

Pablo Garcia, Burns: Scored a goal in the Bulldogs' 4-0 win over East Gaston.

Isaac Tucker, Burns: Earned a hat trick.

Anthony Anselmo, Kings Mountain: Scored a goal in the Mountaineers’ 2-1 win over Forestview.

Elijah Reynolds, Kings Mountain: Netted a goal.

Jacob Hernandez, Lincoln Charter: Scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Mountain Island Charter.

Tuesday, Oct. 17

Volleyball

Kiley Harmon, Forestview: Had 11 assists in a 3-0 win over Stuart Cramer.

Sophie Larner, Forestview: Had a team-high 15 assists.

Laura Barcela Mullins, Forestview: Had 12 kills.

Kendall Parsons, Gaston Christian: Had 31 assists in a 3-2 loss to Asheville School.

Piper Riley, Gaston Christian: Had 18 kills and 16 digs.

Riley Decker, Highland Tech: Had 22 digs and two assists in a 3-0 win over East Gaston to claim the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A tournament title.

Alexus Neal, Highland Tech: Had 16 kills and 10 digs.

Alise Mayers, Highland Tech: Had 12 kills and 19 digs.

Myracle Davis, Kings Mountain: Had 13 kills and two blocks in a 3-0 win over Crest. The win earns Lady Mountaineers their fourth consecutive Big South 3A championship.

Jessie Ozmore, Kings Mountain: Had 12 digs.

Camden Pasour, Kings Mountain: Had 34 assists, three kills and four digs.

Meile Songaila, Kings Mountain: Had 15 kills and 11 digs.

Lyric Brown, Piedmont Community Charter: Had three kills in a 3-0 win over Apprentice Academy.

Kaela Bryson, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 14 aces and a kill.

Lily Cochcroft, Piedmont Community Charter: Had four aces and three kills.

Addie Key, Piedmont Community Charter: Had four aces and five kills.

Sarah Simonds, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 13 aces and two kills.

Boys

Nehemiah Garcia, Ashbrook: Placed third at the Big South 3A conference meet (18:11.76).

Zack Larner, Forestview: Finished fourth at the Big South 3A conference meet (18:32.87). Three teammates joined him in the top 10, among them Lucas Crisp (sixth), Luke Denton (ninth) and Matthew Bradley (10th). The Jaguars finished second as a team with 43 points.

Ben Kimmel, Hunter Huss: Was his team’s top finisher at the Big South 3A meet, placing fifth (19:05.08).

Max Thompson, Kings Mountain: Claimed the Big South 3A individual title with a time of 17:20. He led a Mountaineer group to its first league title since 1998, besting Forestview by six points at the conference meet. Joining him in the top 10 were Isaiah Watts (second) and Hunter Cruise (seventh). David Johnson finished 11th, while Luke Howell was 16th.

Riley Wesson, Lincolnton: Finished 10th at the Catawba Valley 2A cross country meet (19:52).

Tucker Caulder, Lincoln Charter: Finished third at the Catawba Shores 1A/2A cross country meet (17:13.80). He led a trio of Lincoln Charter runners in the top 10, also including Bryson Perry (17:46.96) and Benito Juarez (17:56.37). The Eagles finished second at the conference meet, Christ the King’s 56 points nipping them by three.

Anderson Wise, West Lincoln: Was his team’s top runner at the Catawba Valley 2A cross country meet, finishing eighth (19:33.3).

Girls

Taylor Royston, Forestview: Was her team’s top finisher, placing ninth (24:10.05) at the Big South 3A meet. Teammate Gianna Lowry finished 10th.

Brooke Waseman, Kings Mountain: Was the top finisher among the Lady Mountaineers, finishing sixth. Teammate Sarah Eagle finished eighth, helping Kings Mountain finish second as a team.

Lexi Jenkins, Lincolnton: Logged Lincolnton’s best finish at the Catawba Valley 2A cross country meet, finishing 13th (24:44).

Bella Lohri, Lincoln Charter: Finished eighth at the Catawba Shores 1A/2A cross country meet (20:51.29). The Lady Eagles finished third as a team at the conference meet.

Lexi Birtwistle, South Point: Was her team’s top finisher at the Big South 3A meet, placing second. Teammates Maddie Frank (third), Rachel Tolbert (fourth) and Averie Kelly (fifth) earned spots in the top 10, with Anslee Perkins finishing 12th. The Lady Raiders claimed the Big South 3A championship, outpacing second place Kings Mountain by 40 points.

Oshauna Holland, Stuart Cramer: Claimed the Big South 3A title with a time of 22:01.83. Teammate Annabelle Bahr finished seventh.

Adleigh Sutton, West Lincoln: Finished third at the Catawba Valley 2A cross country meet, helping her team claim a league championship. The Lady Rebels finished 29 points ahead of Maiden. Sutton’s teammates McKenna Helms (sixth), Abi Barkley (seventh) and Reagan Spivey (eighth) each logged top 10 results.

Monday, Oct. 16

Volleyball

Emily Allen, Cherryville: Had six kills and 11 assists in a 3-0 loss to East Gaston.

Riley Decker, Highland Tech: Led her team with 12 digs in a 3-0 win over Burns.

Alise Mayers, Highland Tech: Led the Rams with 12 kills and three digs.

Isabelle Simmons, Highland Tech: Had 18 assists and 10 digs.

London Brown, Kings Mountain: Had nine kills in a 3-0 win over South Point.

Myracle Davis, Kings Mountain: Had 11 kills and a block.

Jessie Ozmore, Kings Mountain: Had 16 digs.

Camden Pasour, Kings Mountain: Had 37 assists, six digs and five kills.

Meile Songaila, Kings Mountain: Had 18 kills and 10 digs.

Grace Belcher, Lincolnton: Had 10 kills in a 3-1 loss to East Burke..

Tanlee Eley, Lincolnton: Had 13 digs and 30 assists.

Camellia Holland, Lincolnton: Led her team with 17 kills and 14 blocks to go with 11 digs and an assist.

Lala Thomas, Lincolnton: Had a team-high 46 digs.

Oliver Moffitt, East Lincoln: Had 11 saves in a 0-0 draw against Foard.

Anthony Anselmo, Kings Mountain: His goal propelled the Mountaineers to a 1-0 win over North Gaston.

Ethan Walker, Lincoln Charter: Scored two goals in a 2-1 win over Christ the King.

Forrest Hayes, North Lincoln: Scored a goal in a 2-1 win over St. Stephens.

Luke Kupsco, North Lincoln: Scored a goal.

Silas Allen, Shelby: Scored a goal and assisted on another in the Golden Lions’ 7-0 win over Cherryville.

Gio Arce, Shelby: Scored a goal.

Gary Ashe, Shelby: Scored a goal.

Eli Morgan, Shelby: Scored a goal.

Bryan Torres, Shelby: Scored a goal.

Manny Torres, Shelby: Scored a goal.
