Garret Cockerill scores Jacksonville Icemen game-winner vs. South Carolina Stingrays

Turning point: Garret Cockerill scored the tie-breaking goal at 10:37 of the third period, giving the Jacksonville Icemen a 2-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday at North Charleston Coliseum.

Three stars: 1. Cockerill, Jacksonville (one goal). 2. Matt Vernon, Jacksonville (31 saves). 3. Connor Russell, Jacksonville (one goal).

Penalty box: Cockerill started the game with a fight against South Carolina's Tyson Empey only 30 seconds after the puck dropped.

Around the rink: Josh Wilkins scored in the first period for the Stingrays (19-13-2-0). ... The game is the last for the Icemen (19-14-3-0) before the Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic, scheduled for Monday evening at Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Ga. ... Jacksonville climbs to third place in the ECHL South Division at the halfway point.

Up next: After the ECHL All-Star break, the Icemen return to action at 7:05 p.m. Friday against the Atlanta Gladiators at Gas South Arena.
