Jan. 13—GRAND FORKS — Hobie Hedquist stopped 22 of 23 shots as UND beat Omaha 3-1 in the series finale. Griffin Ness scored the game's first goal. Dylan James scored the game-winner and Cameron Berg sealed it with an empty-netter against his old team.

First star: Hobie Hedquist, UND, 22 saves.

Second star: Griffin Ness, UND, goal.

Third star: Dylan James, UND, game-winning goal.

UND 1, Omaha 0 — Griffin Ness 2 (Ben Strinden) 6:46. Strinden goes hard on the forecheck and forces Omaha defenseman Joaquim Lemay into a turnover. Ness picks up the puck, makes a deke on goalie Simon Latkoczy, dips to the goal line and tucks in his second goal of the season with the backhand. Ness also scored the game-winning goal in Game 3 of the playoff series between the teams.

UND 1, Omaha 1 — Tanner Ludtke 5 (Ty Mueller, Jack Randl) :49. Omaha ties it up on the second shift of the third period. UND defenseman Keaton Pehrson gets caught up ice and the Mavericks go the other way on a two-on-one. Dylan James sprints to try to get back, but Ludtke maintains enough space for Mueller to feed him for the backdoor tap in.

UND 2, Omaha 1 — Dylan James 4 (Jackson Blake, Owen McLaughlin) 3:35. McLaughlin starts the play with a clean faceoff win in the offensive zone. Blake takes a quick shot and James puts away the rebound on his backhand. It's James' 12th-career goal, fifth against Omaha.

UND 3, Omaha 1 — Cameron Berg 10 19:34 (en). Berg finishes the weekend by chipping a puck from the neutral zone into the empty net against his old team.

UND is starting Hobie Hedquist, who started both games last weekend against Alaska due to an illness to Ludvig Persson. Persson returned Friday after practicing two days during the week, but struggled. . . The Fighting Hawks are juggling their defensive pairings and inserting Griffin Ness as the extra skater instead of Tanner Komzak. . . The only change for Omaha is defenseman Dom Vidoli for defenseman Noah Ellis as the extra skater. . . Omaha is seeking its first-ever sweep of UND.
