Game time set for Texas vs. Virginia or Colorado State in 2024 NCAA Tournament opener

Texas will open the NCAA Tournament on Thursday in Charlotte, N.C., but the seventh-seeded Longhorns will have to wait a couple of days before they find out their opponent.

Virginia (23-10) and Colorado State (24-10) face off in a First Four game Tuesday, with the winner advancing to Thursday's contest with Texas. Thursday's game will be televised at 5:50 p.m. on TNT.

The Longhorns qualified for a fourth straight NCAA Tournament, but this is the lowest seed for Texas in that stretch. Texas has never before been a No. 9 seed. The Longhorns have been a No. 8 seed three times, most recently in 2010.

After four consecutive first-round losses from 2015-21, Texas has won two straight NCAA Tournament openers. Last season the Longhorns reached their first Elite Eight since 2008.
