Gage Larvadain: What to know about receiver who had 273 yards, 3 TD in Miami RedHawks' win

The Miami University RedHawks and University of Massachusetts Minutemen had to endure weather delays that lasted several hours Saturday, with MU eventually prevailing 41-28 at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

RedHawks junior wide receiver Gage Larvadain posted big numbers in the win: eight receptions on 12 targets for 273 yards with three touchdowns, including 76 yards after catch.

In the first quarter, Larvadain had a 99-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Brett Gabbert to give MU a two-score lead.

Larvadain will be a player the University of Cincinnati Bearcats will keep an eye on Saturday in Saturday's battle for the Victory Bell at Nippert Stadium.

Here are five things to know about Larvadain:

Larvadain was 10 yards from breaking MU's single-game record for receiving yards.

Jack Sorenson owns the RedHawks' record for most receiving yards in a game.

Sorenson had 283 (on 14 catches) on the road against the Ohio Bobcats in 2021.

Larvadain was playing in just his second game for the RedHawks.

Larvadain hasn't wasted any time establishing himself as Gabbert's go-to receiver.

The Southeastern Louisiana transfer also had eight catches in MU's 38-3 loss to the Miami Hurricanes on September 1 in Coral Gables, Florida.

Larvadain's totals through the RedHawks' first two games: 16 receptions for 353 yards with three TDs.

Martin Nance holds the record for most receiving yards in a season by a RedHawk, with 1,498 in 2003.

Last season, Larvadain was SLU's leading receiver.

In 13 games for the Lions in 2022, Larvadain had 59 catches for 731 yards with two TDs. He earned all-Southland Conference first-team honors at kick returner and second team at receiver.

In 2021, he was named 2021 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year. He also made all-Southland Conference first team at kick returner and second team at receiver.

He caught 37 passes for 521 yards and five touchdowns in his first season at SLU, and led the conference and ranked 16th in FCS with a 26.6 kick return average.

Larvadain played in 11 games for Southeastern Louisiana's basketball team as a freshman.

Larvadain averaged 1.6 points in 4.3 minutes per game for the Lions. He scored six points in a loss at Iowa State in December 2021.

Larvadain is not on MU's men's basketball roster.

Larvadain starred in football and basketball at Louisiana's Riverside Academy.

Larvadain played QB, WR and defensive back, and accounted for about 2,400 yards and 33 touchdowns in high school.

In basketball, he was named first-team Class 1A All-State after averaging 27 points, eight rebounds and seven assists per game for Riverside.

When Larvadain signed to play football and basketball at SLU, Riverside tweeted that he was the first graduate of the high school to sign and play multiple sports for a Div. I school.
