FWB duo win state doubles title

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS -- Cole Armstrong and Ryan Roberson dominated county tennis. Dominated districts. Dominated at Fort Walton Beach Tennis Center and on the road.

At every level, they've proven unbeatable. And now, like Viking alums Frankie Muldowney and Tomas Pejanovic before them, their names will be etched in FHSAA lore.

Yep, the 3A state title doubles title is theirs. And, frankly, it wasn't all that close.

Armstrong and Roberson affirmed their No. 1 seed at Sanlando Park, concluding a 3-0 run at state with Wednesday's 8-6 championship win over Sumedh Edavalluri and Shyaam Shanmugam of Pembroke Pines.

It's the second state doubles title for the Viking program in five years, Muldowney and Pejanovic going 5-0 during their run to gold in 2019. It's also the ideal prep walkoff for the two seniors, each flexing in singles as well after making appearances in the district championship at their respective seeds.

Armstrong, who is bound for Massachusetts Institute of Technology this fall, played all four years in the No. 1 position. Right behind was Roberson.

Now the two are on top together.
