FSU football predictions: Do college football experts think Miami can upset Florida State?

College football fans throw out the records when it comes to picking rivalry games. But the Florida State and Miami football teams are going in opposite directions: Is an upset still brewing?

It's not all sunshine and daisies for the No. 4 Seminoles. Yes, FSU has already punched its ticket to the ACC Championship Game, and its 9-0 start (7-0 in ACC) has it positioned for a College Football Playoff berth. But Heisman Trophy hopeful Jordan Travis played last week without his two best receivers, Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson.

The Seminoles felt their absence early on in their 24-7 win at Pitt. Travis did finish with 360 yards and a touchdown, while Trey Benson ran for 97 yards, 55 of which came on a third-quarter score. Coach Mike Norvell got good news before Saturday's game: Coleman and Wilson were cleared to play.

The Hurricanes (6-3, 2-3) has lost three of their past five games, including a 20-6 defeat last week at NC State. Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke threw for just 173 yards and three interceptions, leading to speculation that coach Mario Cristobal could bench him in favor of freshman Emory Williams or sophomore Jacurri Brown.

Will FSU make it three wins in a row against Miami? Or will the Hurricanes pull off one of the biggest upsets in the rivalry's history? Here's a look at what college football experts predict will happen:

Chris Hummer, 247 Sports: FSU 31-24

"Interesting game. I think both teams are better and more flawed than people assume. That sounds weird. But Miami isn’t as terrible as recent results might indicate. And Florida State, while excellent, is far from infallible. Given the opportunity, FSU will run this score up against one of its biggest recruiting rivals. I just don’t know if Florida State will get the chance. The Hurricanes have the talent along the lines of scrimmage to match up with FSU, and if Tyler Van Dyke can take care of the football – a huge if recently – this will be close."

Bill Bender, Sporting News: FSU 38-28

"Florida State hammered Miami 45-3 last year, and the Seminoles have a chance to win three straight in the series. The Hurricanes are 1-2 S/U on the road this season, but they are 2-1 ATS. Florida State’s running game continues to be inconsistent, but they have just two turnovers in their last six games."

Stewart Mandel, The Athletic: FSU 28-10

"It took me by surprise to see the Canes rank in or near the Top 25 in both offensive and defensive yards per play, because it rarely shows in their results. Their last two outings were an overtime win over 2-7 Virginia and a 20-6 loss at unranked NC State. Meanwhile, it sounds like star wide receiver Keon Coleman will be back for FSU this week."

Brad Crawford, 247 Sports: FSU 34-17

"The Seminoles are motivated in this one. And Miami struggled mightily to score points in last week's loss at NC State. That said, the Hurricanes might be slightly undervalued given that setback. And FSU didn't pull away from Pittsburgh until late in the third quarter on the road. But the Seminoles are on a mission and Miami is simply standing in the way. Not much a roadblock, I mean."

Kris Johnson, Sporting News: Miami beats the spread

"This could be a sneaky good game if (Tyler) Van Dyke and Miami limit their turnovers against a good FSU defense. The possible absence of (Keon) Coleman and (Johnny) Wilson would further tilt the lean toward the Hurricanes and the points.

"After getting waxed in Miami by 42 points (tied for most in series history) last year, expect the Hurricanes to keep this one close as they play the role of potential spoiler."
