Fromm's 40 spoils return of Valley Christian varsity girls basketball program to WIAA and Trailways conference

OSHKOSH - In their first game back competing at the varsity level in both the Trailways conference and the WIAA, the Valley Christian Warriors controlled a good majority of the contest, but turnovers proved costly in a 62-55 loss to Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah.

Valley led by three at the break, and as many as six points midway through the second half, but the Resorters shot their way into as much as an eight-point lead of their own with three minutes left to go. Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah senior guard Coryn Fromm scored 16 points in the first half, including four three-pointers, and would go on to finish with a game-high 40.

Senior forward Anna Y. Giannopoulos paced the Warriors with a 24-point, 13-rebound double-double with five steals and two blocks. Freshman guard Mya Moran added 15 points and five rebounds for Valley. Sophomore guard Anna E. Giannopoulos also had five steals while dishing out eight assists and grabbing six rebounds.

ROSENDALE - Laconia improved to 2-0, with back-to-back wins against Division 3 opponents, in a convincing victory over the Hawks.

The Spartans continued to let it fly, sinking another 13 three-pointers after making 11 on opening night, Tuesday, in the thrilling 82-78 win over No. 2 Oostburg.

Junior guard Aubrey Leonard scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the first half, freshman guard Finley Morgan added four threes for 12 points, and junior guard Tierney Madigan had 11 to round out the scoring leaders for Laconia.

Elle Krull led Xavier with 11 points.

DE PERE - After trailing by four at the half, Oshkosh West picked up a come-from-behind victory over the Redbirds to open their 2023-24 season with a win.

Paige Seckar scored 12 points in the second half to finish with a team-high 17 for the Wildcats.

Claire Bjorge made six threes to lead De Pere with a game-high 30 points.

Hailee Bauer drained six three-pointers, finishing with a game-high 19 points. Ella Slusarski and Hannah McDowell each added 11 points apiece for Lourdes.

Olivia Witkowski had six in each half to finish with a team-high 12 points for Weyauwega-Fremont.

Piersten Litterick and Addison Zahn tied for a game-high 14 points each and Savanna Frea added 11 points to lead the Lions. Litterick (four) and Zahn (six) also combined for 10 of Lomira's 12 steals as a team.

Jada Kaiser and Grace Mitchell each scored eight points to lead Winneconne. Mitchell grabbed nine rebounds and had four steals.

Magdalen Simon had a more traditional double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, along with five assists and five steals. The Challengers collected 23 thefts as a team.

Kylie Beer led CWC with 13 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two three-pointers.

Tabitha Buwalda added seven points, eight boards and three assists, Taylor Hoffman had two points, six rebounds, a pair of assists and five steals, and Samantha Braskamp tallied three points with three assists and five steals. McKenzie Zuhlke rounded out the Crusaders with a three-point basket.
