Friday's Top Prep Performers: Moorpark, Ventura earn key league basketball victories

Highlights from Friday in high school sports:

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Tyson Howarth finished with 24 points, five rebounds and three assists, Levi Oakes had 15 points, four rebounds and four assists, Drake Howarth had 11 points and three rebounds, and JJ Ward added 10 points and 10 rebounds as Moorpark (7-12) beat Simi Valley 58-47 to improve to 2-0 in Coastal Canyon League play. Ryder Mjoen scored 23 points and Kyle Hoffer had 11 points for the Pioneers (12-9, 1-1).

  • Jadon Holmes had 21 points, eight rebounds and four blocks, Ade Daramola had 12 points and six steals, Seshsha Henderson scored 10 points, and Cody Fleetwood added nine points as Oak Park (13-7, 1-1) rallied for a 65-64 victory over Royal in a Coastal Canyon League game. Ace Arnold scored a game-high 27 points, Parker Hill dropped in 17 points, Gavin Wright had seven points, and Chase Brosamle added six points for the Highlanders (17-4, 0-1).

  • Parsa Kamali hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game in overtime and finished with 15 points, Caleb Sebek had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Travis Valenzuela contributed 11 points and eight rebounds, and Finn Fancher added 10 points and six rebounds to lead Ventura (5-9, 4-0) to a 57-52 overtime victory over Rio Mesa in a Channel League game. Rodney Adams Jr. scored 17 points and Jackson Knowles had 16 points for the Spartans (5-10, 1-3).

  • Nathaniel Gomez had 15 points and six assists, Marcos Ramirez finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and Matthew Samaan had 11 points, three assists and three steals to lead Oxnard (14-4, 4-0) to a 47-45 win over Santa Barbara in a Channel League game.

  • Josh Ullegue finished with 17 points and five assists, Luke Ortiz had 15 points and four blocks, Jayden Iyer contributed 11 points and seven rebounds, Ben Perez had eight points and four assists, and Wakine Molina added eight points and four steals to lead Buena (8-9, 2-2) to a 73-51 victory over Pacifica in a Channel League game. Richard Miranda hit eight 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 30 points, Isaiah Dillion had 11 points, seven assists and three rebounds, and Christian Garcia added five points for the Tritons (7-9, 0-4).

  • Cayden Budlong finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and five steals, Kayden Bruchey had 10 points and three rebounds, and Josh Jackson contributed six points, 10 rebounds and six steals to lead Nordhoff (3-13, 2-3) to a 43-38 victory over Fillmore in a Citrus Coast League game.

  • Grayson Coleman scored 25 points in three quarters, Tidiane Sy had 17 points and Bryce Dameworth added eight points to lead Calabasas (13-4) to a 75-47 win over El Camino Real in a nonleague game.

  • Caymen Wimmer finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Carter Reid had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Will Friel had 14 points and seven rebounds, Mason Stueber had 13 points and seven assists, and Alex Klemz added 11 points and five rebounds to lead Hillcrest Christian (10-4) to a 69-62 victory over Rosamond in a nonleague game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Aryanna Lopez poured in 29 points, Jalynn Rico had 10 points, and Madilyn Stonebraker finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and five blocks to lead Santa Paula (11-8, 4-0) to a 63-36 win over Carpinteria in a Citrus Coast League game.

BOYS SOCCER

  • Tyler Cash had two goals and an assist, Tamir Ratovitz finished with a goal and two assists, Carson Casella scored a goal, and Miles Johnson had an assist to lead Oak Park to a 4-1 victory over Royal in a Coastal Canyon League match.

  • Andrew Menjivar, Christian Mitchell, Jett Barrett and Kevin Ceja scored goals and Leon Chavez and Sean Welch combined for the shutout in net to lead Moorpark to a 4-0 victory over Simi Valley in a Coastal Canyon League match.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Emily Rychlik scored a goal off an assist from Emerson Adams and Macie Baird converted a penalty kick to lift Oak Park to a 2-0 win over Royal in a Coastal Canyon League match.

  • Meztli Zambrano, Karla Alatorre and Gennesis Higuera scored goals and Allison Ruiz and Cynthia Centeno had assists to lead Oxnard (6-2-1) to a 3-2 victory over Channel Islands in a nonleague match.

  • Abigail Seawright had a goal to help Oaks Christian (5-2-2) defeated Buena 2-0 in a nonleague match. Delany Timmons made 11 saves for the Bulldogs (6-3-1).

BOYS WRESTLING

  • James Rocha won the title at 215 pounds, Matt Siegel finished second at 150, Luke Gublet was third at 144, and Darius Mello placed seventh at 132 as Thousand Oaks took seventh out of 35 teams at the two-day Upper Champs Tournament in Nogales.
