Thursday, Sept. 7:

Even a lightning delay couldn’t slow down the 3-0 Titans’ offense. Jack Mauz had the first touchdown of the night, on a 35-yard pass from Owen Pinkerton. Pinkerton later connected with Dylan Fischer for another 35-yard strike. Running back Corey Moore led the running game with 100 yards and a touchdown, while fullback Jim Wade took both of his two carries into the end zone. The defense also got into the end zone – linebacker Adam Oscar recovered a fumble and returned it 12 yards for a TD. Sebastian Pacchione and Michael Chiliberti each added rushing TDs for the Titans.

For CR North (0-3), defensive back Jack Paessler grabbed an interception and broke up a long pass attempt to prevent a touchdown.

Friday, Sept. 8:

The Patriots scored early and often in their win over Hill School. Anthony Lara got the party started with a TD early in the first, and sophomore quarterback Xavier Stearn lofted a 25-yard TD pass to George Arendt. The Patriots took a 21-7 lead after an interception and a long return by AJ Towsen led to a 1-yard TD run by Seamus Knox. Then, it was Towsen’s turn on offense, as he hauled in a 40-yard TD reception. A Jared Smith field goal closed out the scoring for the first half. Towson’s big night continued with a 9-yard TD run in the third. Finally, Josh Cain scored on a 32-yard TD from Stearns, closing the door on Hill School.

Pennridge 33, Bensalem 0

After a close loss last week to Souderton, the Rams (1-2) piled on the points to earn their first victory of the season, and the first for new head coach Kyle Beller. After a quiet first quarter, Jacob Arteaga scored to give the Rams a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, followed by a 35-yard TD pass from Noah Keating to Joe Gregoire. The Rams really opened things up in the second half, with Keating hitting Chase Marshall for a 75-yard score, followed by an interception returned for a touchdown by Trevor Fuhs.  Joe Hamburger finished up the scoring with a 9-yard TD run. The win ended a nine-game losing streak for the Rams.

Despite the score, the Owls (0-3) had several nice plays on defense, including Aiden Mayfield’s interception in the end zone, which prevented a Rams’ TD.

Bishop McDevitt 47, La Salle 21

The Explorers headed up the turnpike to take on powerhouse Bishop McDevitt of Harrisburg. The Explorers struck first, with Stevie Davis scoring on a 3-yard run, and McDevitt responded with a quick TD, but had the PAT blocked. Davis hit paydirt again, this time on a 65-yard TD reception from sophomore QB Gavin Sidwar. McDevitt would score three unanswered touchdowns to take a 27-14 halftime lead, but Sidwar connected with JP Oate on a 23-yard TD reception to open the third quarter. But McDevitt went on another run, and took a 41-21 lead into the fourth quarter, which the Explorers couldn't overcome. On defense, Matt Wills had two sacks for La Salle.

Harry S. Truman 13, Abington 6

Aqual Chapman ran the opening kickoff back 90 yards for a touchdown to get things started for the Truman Tigers (1-2), who were hungry for their first win. The Ghosts (1-1), though, quickly countered, as Damian Magler ran four yards for a TD. But after a quiet second quarter, Chapman struck again with a one-yard plunge into the end zone to give the Tigers a 13-6 lead that they would hold until the end. The win is the first for Tigers’ new coach Cordero Newkirk.

North Penn 42, Upper Dublin 7

Looking for their first win of the season, the Knights (1-2) had to take on the defending District 1-5A champs. Undaunted, the Knights quickly took a 7-0 lead on an 18-yard TD run by Amir Major, who added another TD (2-yard run) to close out the first quarter. Major continued his huge game with a 1-yard TD run just before halftime. Matt Bucksar threw two TD passes to Austin Eves — one for 48 yards, and another for 15 yards, and one to Marc Cobbs, who took off for a 35-yard score. The Knights’ defense also excelled, with Christian Johns-Wallace grabbing an interception.

Pennsbury 28, Council Rock South 19

It was a tough outing for the Falcons (2-1), but a solid effort on both offense and defense secured the win. Senior quarterback Nathan Beighley led the way with two rushing touchdowns (6, 8 yards), while Jordan Czerniak had the big play of the night on offense with a 40-yard rushing TD. On defense, Darius Simmons had a highlight-reel worthy play. The senior DB intercepted a pass and then took it 72 yards down the sideline to the house and later added another interception. The Golden Hawks sustained their first loss of the season, despite good games from QB Chase Ennis and running back Chase Myers. Ennis .Ennis hit senior receiver Daniel Boss on a 26-yard scoring strike and senior Nick Haurin on a 12-yard TD pass, while Myers went into the end zone from 7 yards out.

Souderton 23, Central Bucks East 21

Ryan Sadowski earned the distinction of being the first player to score against CB East, as he ignited Souderton (3-0) with an early touchdown run. Sadowski did it again in the second quarter, with another 7-yard rushing TD. Dean Blackwell had an impressive 70-yard fumble recovery returned for a TD to give the Patriots (2-1) their first points of the game before halftime, with Souderton leading 14-7. The game grew even closer in the second half. Blackwell struck again with a 2-yard score, but two long field goals by Rylan Zuk (40, 42 yards) kept the Big Red in front. In the fourth, Jack Donnelly’s 21-yard rushing TD gave the Patriots’ their first lead of the night. But it was Souderton’s star kicker to the rescue, as Zuk booted a 21-yard FG with three minutes remaining to put the Big Red back on top for good this time.

Central Bucks West 40, Quakertown 20

Conor McFadden scored on a 12-yard pass from Cooper Taylor to give the Bucks a 20-14 lead, and, after a close first half, the Bucks (3-0) pulled away after intermission. Baker finished with 100 rushing yards and Clee had 90 for Neshaminy.

Momentum changed for the Panthers when Harrison Tindell recovered a UM fumble. Lorenzo Hurley scored a rushing touchdown on the next drive, and he added the go-ahead TD halfway through the fourth quarter. QB Derrek Guenther scored the Panthers’ first TD in the first quarter. The win was the first for the Panthers’ first-year head coach Colin Leach.
