Friday night Beaver County football highlights, Week 7

West Allegheny 10, Blackhawk 6 — Blackhawk was on the verge of winning their first game this season, but West Allegheny prevailed in a 10-6 win. It was a low-scoring affair after two straight weeks of West Allegheny putting up 40 or more points.

After a scoreless first quarter, Blackhawk got on the board first with a 27-yard field goal from Will Brown. West Allegheny tied it up in the third quarter with a 39-yard field goal from Andy Cosnek. Brown kicked his second field goal in the fourth quarter to re-take the lead – this time from 21 yards out.

The lone touchdown of the game won it for West Allegheny, though. Brock Cornell scored on a late rushing touchdown, sealing Blackhawk’s fate and giving West Allegheny the narrowest of victories.

West Allegheny will host Central Valley in Week 8, while Blackhawk still looks for their first win, taking on Montour at home next weekend.

Beaver Falls 42, Ellwood City 28 — Beaver Falls hasn’t enjoyed the most consistent season but put another win in the victory column on Friday night. After falling to Mohawk last weekend, Beaver Falls took down section rival Ellwood City, 42-28, at Geneva College.

Meanwhile, for Ellwood City, the Wolverines were coming off a win over New Brighton.

Beaver Falls took all the momentum going into halftime and then at the beginning of the third quarter, thanks to touchdowns from Brixx Rawl and Di’Nari Harris. Rawl finished the evening with three rushing touchdowns and 227 yards. Harris and Kadin Brickner also added rushing touchdowns.

Ellwood City attempted to fight back, thanks to two passing touchdowns by Chris Smiley to receivers DaiLonn Currie and Elijah Palmer-McCane. The junior running back also found the end zone twice on the ground, but had just 35 rushing yards on the night.

Beaver Falls will remain at home to take on the Freedom Bulldogs in Week 8. Meanwhile, Ellwood City will look to bounce back on Homecoming against Neshannock on Oct. 20.

Central Valley 56, Ambridge 12 — Central Valley dominated at home, taking down Ambridge, 56-12. Central Valley owned the second half, defending Ambridge well enough to keep them out of the end zone for the entire half.

Mason Dixon had two touchdowns in the first half, while Jance Henry also added two rushing touchdowns. Dixon finished the game with 104 yards on nine carries, while Henry followed behind with nine carries for 52 yards. Other players got some work in, with JJ Work scoring a touchdown on the ground.

In the third quarter, Central Valley went on an unanswered scoring run, which began with a Steven Rutherford passing touchdown to Donte Newtono from 22 yards out. Brandon Singleton added a 15-yard rushing touchdown, while Josiah Boykin put a bow on the game with a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.

For Ambridge, the Bridgers saw a big night from senior Grant Uvodich, with a 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter, followed by an 80-yard catch from classmate Adam Fernandez.

Central Valley will hit the road on Oct. 20, taking on West Allegheny. Ambridge, on the other hand, will return home to take on New Castle.

Western Beaver 57, New Brighton 7 — Western Beaver saw four different players find paydirt multiple times on Friday night in their massive 57-7 victory over New Brighton. The Golden Beavers saw multi-touchdown games from Chris Kirland, Tyson Florence, Dorian McGhee and Mickey Crawford. Florence led the group with three rushing touchdowns.

Florence’s longest rushing touchdown was a 52-yard run in the third quarter. He also ran one in from 22 and five yards out. It wasn’t just the rushing game where Western Beaver found success, as Florence’s touchdowns were the only ones on the ground.

Freshman quarterback Jaivin Peel threw five touchdowns. His longest with an 80-yard hook-up with McGhee.

New Brighton did find the end zone, thanks to a 7-yard rushing attempt from Giante Moore, a senior. The Lions are still looking for their first win of the season, and will take on Riverside next weekend. Meanwhile, Western Beaver are riding a four-game winning streak and will go on the road against Mohawk on Oct. 20.

West Mifflin 57, Quaker Valley 13 — Armand Hill lit up the Quaker Valley defense on Friday night, scoring five rushing touchdowns in West Mifflin’s 57-13 win over the Quakers. After an 80-yard run in the first quarter, Hill rushed the ball into the end zone on runs of 39 yards, 41 yards, 2 yards and 10-yards.

Joseph Fleming, Jose Perez and Ryan Abbou also added touchdowns for West Mifflin, with one each through the air.

Meanwhile, for the Quakers, Jack Diemert found the back of the end zone from 67 and four yards out. Diemert had a big evening, rushing for 200 yards on 24 carries.

Quaker Valley will hit the road to take on Beaver next weekend, while West Mifflin returns home to face the Hopewell Vikings.
