Kirt passed away last week after a brief illness.

Kirt joined the Free Press in 1995, and while he shot news assignments, he was best known for his sports photography. From the Detroit Pistons championship to the Red Wings' Stanley Cup runs to Miguel Cabrera’s final day as a Tiger, Kirt was there, creating iconic images that graced the front page and sports sections of the Free Press for nearly three decades.
