Frankston Maidens, Cayuga Lady Wildcats make playoffs

Oct. 28—The Frankston Maidens volleyball squad will enter the 2023 University Interscholastic League playoffs with an undefeated district record, and a 25-10 overall record on the year. The Maidens would go 8-0 in 2A district 21 competition to place first in the district stands.

Frankston will begin their playoff journey against the 15-19 Centerville Lady Tigers, who placed fourth in 2A district 22 with a 0-6 district record. The game is to be played at 6:30 p.m. Halloween night, Tuesday Oct 31. Buffalo high school will play host for the first round matchup. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door, with adult tickets going for $4 and student tickets for $2.

The Cayuga Lady Wildcats have also clinched a playoff berth in 2A district 21, with their overall record of 14-18 and a 4-4 district record enough to claim third in the standings. Cayuga will have a very tough first round matchup, as they drew the Leon Lady Cougars in the first round. Leon is currently 33-2 on the year, with both losses coming to district rival Iola, who went 44-1 on the year.

At the time of writing, game time for the matchup between the Lady Cougars and Wildcats has yet to be set. According to the UIL website, first round games must be played on either Oct 30 or 31. Keep an eye on the Palestine Herald-Press' Facebook page for updated information.
