Four-star cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt flips commitment to Ohio State football

Calvin Simpson-Hunt, a four-star cornerback in the class of 2023, has flipped his commitment from Texas Tech to Ohio State.

As he announced his pledge on Thursday afternoon, Simpson-Hunt tweeted a photo of himself alongside Tim Walton, the Buckeyes’ secondary coach.

“Committed to THE Ohio State University,” he wrote.

Simpson-Hunt, a native of Waxahachie, Texas, had been committed to Texas Tech since late last year, but took an official visit to Columbus two weeks ago as he moved up teams’ recruiting boards across the country.

Ohio State first extended him a scholarship in May, as did other blue-bloods such as Alabama, Southern California and Texas over the month.

He’s ranked as the No. 22 cornerback and No. 173 overall prospect in the class by the 247Sports composite rankings and is listed as 6 feet and 175 pounds.

Simpson-Hunt is regarded for his speed. As part of Waxahachie's track and field team, he ran the 100 meters in 10.67 seconds this spring.

His commitment is the second this week for the Buckeyes, who added another cornerback to their class on Monday in Kayin Lee of Ellenwood, Georgia.

A week earlier, they picked up three receivers to a class that is now the top-ranked group in the country for this cycle.
