Four local boys water polo teams reach CIF-Southern Section semifinals

Four area boys water polo teams prevailed in quarterfinal games across four divisions Saturday to advance to the CIF-Southern Section semifinals.

Tom Leggett and Mike Soybel each had scored two goals and Franco Scalamandre and Tyler Moore each had a goal to lead Oaks Christian to a 6-5 victory over host Los Alamitos in a Division 1 quarterfinal game.

The Lions will play Santa Barbara, which defeated Mira Costa 9-8, in a semifinal game at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Cole Belavic, Logan Morgan and Laike Van Item each scored two goals, Acelin “Ace” Clinger, Presley Williams and Quentin Chapman had goals, and Braeden Sanders made 10 saves to lead top-seeded Thousand Oaks to a 9-6 victory over host Rancho Cucamonga in a Division 3 quarterfinal game.

The Lancers will play Bonita in a semifinal game at Oaks Christian School on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Camarillo defeated visiting Chaparral in a Division 4 quarterfinal game. The Scorpions will play at Crespi, a 15-10 winner over Estancia, in a semifinal game Wednesday.

Ethan Edwards finished with 10 goals, Nico Furneaux had five goals, Ethan Okun scored four goals, Liam Besand had three goals, Micah McGranahan had two goals, and Dylan Gillespie and Trevor Wilkinson each had a goal to lead Buena to a 26-3 victory over visiting Tustin in a Division 5 quarterfinal game.

The Bulldogs will play at Burbank in a semifinal game Wednesday.

Westlake lost to host San Juan Hills 10-9 in a Division 2 quarterfinal game.
