Four individuals and one relay team to represent county at D3 girl's state track finals

HILLSDALE – While no team from Branch County will be making the trip to the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Track State Finals, the county will be well represented in the Division Three tournament after the teams from Union City, Quincy, and Bronson traveled to Hillsdale High School to compete in the MHSAA LP Region 25-3 event.

(The following are results just for the girl's portion of the tournament, the results for the boy's tournament will appear in its own write up)

The Union City Chargers led the local contingent of teams with a fourth-place finish after scoring 63 points. Quincy was not far behind in sixth place with 54 points while Bronson finished in fourteenth place with 14 points. The team from Jackson Lumen Christi won the Division Three Regional title with a score of 90 points, followed by Grass Lake in second place with 80.33 points.

A total of four individual student-athletes and one relay team from right here in Branch County will travel to the state finals on June 1 at Kenty City High School.

The results are as follows:

Union City finishes fourth; Gillons qualifies in three individual events, will join relay teammates at finals

Union City junior Nevada Gillons will be making her return trip to the MHSAA State Finals after qualifying in not one, but three events. Gillons will represent Union City in both hurdle events, taking second place in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.13 and second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 48.45 seconds. Gillons will also compete in the long jump as an individual after taking second place with a jump of 16 feet, 0.75 inches.

Also making the trip to the state finals for Union City will be the 400-relay team consisting of Gillons, Alaina Labar, Naomi Schwark, and Attica Hoath who took fifth place in a state qualifying time of 52.64 seconds.

Representing Union City with a top six finish at the regional level were Hoath, sixth place in the 200; Parker Williams, fourth place in the 400; Skyler Fraley, sixth place in the 1,600 and third place in the 3,200; Allison Gautsche, fourth place in the 3,200; the 800 relay team of Willow Austin, Schwark, Addison Miller, and Hoath, fifth place; and the 3,200 relay team of Alissa Skirka, Lilly Eyre, Gautsche, and Fraley, sixth place.

Quincy takes sixth place, Parker brings home two regional titles

The Quincy Orioles saw sophomore Brookelyn Parker bring home not one, but two regional crowns on Friday, winning the 100 hurdles in a time of 15.84 seconds while also winning the 300 hurdles in a time of 47.43 seconds.

Also earning a top six finish for Quincy in the team standings was Raylee Fulton, sixth place in the 3,200; the 1,600 relay team of Kendyl Musielewicz, Parker, Cheyenne Marske, and Elizabeth Craig, sixth place; the 3,200 relay team of Fulton, Musielewicz, Katharina Paschke, and Sadie Miller, fifth place; Hallie Jones, fourth place in the shot put; Abby Tinervia, fifth place in the long jump; and Brooke McVicker, fifth place in the pole vault.

Bronson finishes fourteenth, Hayes heading to state finals

Bronson junior Jaiden Hayes punched her ticket to the state finals on Friday, finishing in fifth place in the 300 hurdles in a state qualifying time of 49.78 seconds.

Pacing the Viking effort at regionals with a top six finish was Hayes, sixth place in the 100 and Skylar Smith fifth place in the discus.

The four individual student-athletes and one relay team from Branch County competing in Division Three will now travel to the state finals to be held June 1 at Kent City High School.
