Former Vikings RB Dalvin Cook signs with New York Jets

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook has found his next home.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cook is signing a one-year contract with the New York Jets. The contract is reportedly worth up to $8.6 million in total.

The news is hardly a surprise, and it seemed like Cook was trending toward a deal with the Jets. Cook recently traveled to the Jets facility for a weekend visit but left without a deal.

Cook was drafted by the Vikings in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft and spent the first six seasons with the team. During that time, Cook played in 73 games for the Vikings, rushing for 5,993 yards and 47 touchdowns.

Last season, Cook struggled to find the same efficiency that he did in the past, averaging just 4.4 yards per carry. Those struggles combined with his large cap hit made him a cap casualty after the Vikings decided to sign Alexander Mattison to a deal.

Cook will enter an emerging running back room headlined by Breece Hall. Michael Carter II will likely also see some snaps throughout the season.
