Former Vikings center Brett Jones to sign with Denver

Jul. 27—Former Vikings center Brett Jones will sign as a free agent with the Denver Broncos, a source said Tuesday.

Jones played the past three seasons for Minnesota as a backup, although he did start the first three games in 2018. It had become apparent he wouldn't return when the Vikings in March acquired Mason Cole from Arizona to likely serve as the backup center behind Garrett Bradbury.

Jones becomes the latest former Vikings player to join the Broncos since George Paton became their general manager in January after serving as Minnesota's assistant manager. Defensive tackle Shamar Stephen and running back Mike Boone previously signed as free agents and Denver traded with Carolina for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who played for the Vikings from 2014-17.
