Former Texas Longhorns standout Malcom Brown is returning to Austin.

Brown, 30, who starred at defensive tackle for Texas from 2012 to 2014 before he was taken by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft, was announced Wednesday as the head football coach at St. Dominic Savio High School.

“To have an opportunity to come home to Texas, and to coach the sport I have dedicated my life to, is truly a gift and an honor,” Brown said in the school’s announcement. “I am looking forward to mentoring our young athletes through sports and faith, as well as offering them the same opportunities afforded me as a young man growing up in Texas, which led to my success.”

Savio will move into TAPPS Division I, its largest classification for football, in the fall.

The Eagles went 8-2 last year playing an independent schedule of private, public and home schools.

Brown played seven years in the NFL with stints in New England, New Orleans and Jacksonville, most recently suiting up for the Jaguars in 2021. He was on the Patriots' Super Bowl LI championship team in 2017.

At Texas, he was voted first-team All-Big 12 and was an All-American his junior year.
