Former Packers RB Patrick Taylor joining Patriots practice squad
Former Green Bay Packers running back Patrick Taylor will join the practice squad of the New England Patriots, according to Mark Daniels of MassLive.
The Packers released Taylor on Oct. 10, just one day after signing him from the practice squad for the team’s Week 5 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders. While it was assumed he would simply return on the practice squad, Taylor is choosing a new path in a new NFL city — and the Packers replaced Taylor on the practice squad with veteran James Robinson on Tuesday.
Taylor, an undrafted free agent out of Memphis in 2020, worked out for the Patriots on Tuesday.
Taylor played in four games for the Packers in 2023: three as an elevation from the practice squad and one on the 53-man roster. He carried 11 times for 31 yards (two first downs) and caught five passes on 10 targets for 28 yards (three first downs). Overall, Taylor played 70 snaps on offense and 31 on special teams.
Taylor played in 27 games for the Packers over three seasons. He touched the football 52 times, producing 199 total yards and a touchdown.
It’s possible Taylor grew tired of the back-and-forth between the 53-man roster and practice squad, especially given the Packers usage at running back this season. Taylor has played over 100 total snaps for the Packers while rookie Emanuel Wilson — who is on the 53-man roster — has been on the field for just 14 snaps and has no clear special teams value.
The Packers will move forward at running with Wilson, Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon on the 53-man roster and Robinson as a backup option on the practice squad.
