Former Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby appears to be in line to kick for the New York Giants on Christmas Day against the Philadelphia Eagles, marking his first NFL game since the Packers didn't re-sign him before the 2023 season.

Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network said the Giants would be signing Crosby to the practice squad, with the apparent expectation to elevate him for the game. Incumbent practice-squad kicker Cade York was heading to injured reserve after aggravating a leg injury in practice.

York was himself a replacement for Randy Bullock, the kicker who drilled a game-winning field goal against the Packers just two weeks ago. Bullock injured his hamstring in the first quarter of last week's game against New Orleans.

The kicker spot has been a disaster for the Giants this year. In early November, the team placed veteran Graham Gano on injured reserve with a knee injury.

York, who was on the initial 53-man roster this season before he was surpassed by Bullock, played 17 games for Cleveland last year.

Crosby, of course, never missed a game in 17 seasons with the Packers, becoming the franchise's all-time leading scorer along the way. But the 39-year-old wasn't in the plans anymore after the Packers used a draft pick on rookie Anders Carlson.

Crosby signed with the Rams practice squad in early December but was cut within a week and didn't appear in an NFL game.

The Giants are one of six teams playing Monday games this week, all nationally televised. New York then hosts, coincidentally enough, the Rams on New Year's Eve, a game that has particular interest to the Packers as they chase Los Angeles for a playoff spot.
