Former Ohio State QB pokes fun at Georgia’s Stetson Bennett
Among Buckeyes fans, former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones is best remembered for winning the 2014 national championship. But for the rest of America, we remember his viral “we ain’t come to play SCHOOL” tweet.
Jones’ tweet, posted in 2012, sparked controversy and conversation as it bluntly expressed his perspective on the relationship between academics and football: “Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS.”
Recently, it came to light that former Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett had not obtained a degree despite spending six years enrolled in college. Naturally, this revelation prompted Jones to inject a touch of humor into the situation, given his own viral history.

Bennett’s name was not listed in the university’s 2023 spring commencement program. He was also not included in a picture of Georgia football graduates after the winter semester in 2022.
According to Bennett’s bio on the Bulldogs’ website, he was a Learning Design and Technology major in the Mary Frances Early College of Education.
For Bennett, though, it’s all smiles for the former 2017 UGA enrollee. After winning back-to-back national titles, Bennett was a fourth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in this year’s 2023 NFL draft.
Bennett began his career as a walk-on at Georgia in 2017, where he redshirted his freshman season. Prior to the 2018 season, he transferred to Jones Community College. He came back in 2019 to finish what he started.
In 2020, Bennett started five games but was nowhere close to being the Bulldogs’ trusted guy at quarterback. Come 2021, Bennett won the starting job early in the season after an injury to JT Daniels. He guided his team to a national championship win over Alabama in the 2021 season to bring home Georgia’s first trophy since 1980.
Bennett opted to return to UGA in 2022 where he led the Bulldogs to a 15-0 record, which included both an SEC championship and a second consecutive national championship win. He finished fourth in Heisman voting. In 2022, Bennett threw for 4,127 yards, 27 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He rushed for an additional 10 touchdowns.
Bennett’s career stats are 601 of 923, 65.1%, 8,428 yards, 66 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, 530 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.
