Former Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud sets NFL single-game rookie record for passing yards

C.J. Stroud passed his way into the NFL record books Sunday afternoon.

In the Houston Texans' 39-37 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the former Ohio State quarterback broke the single-game league record for most passing yards by a rookie with 470.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck previously set the record in 2012 with a 433-yard performance against the Miami Dolphins.

Stroud secured the record with the Texans' final drive of the game, leading a six-play, 75-yard drive that included a 26-yard pass to Tank Dell to bring the offense into the red zone, before finding Dell again for the 15-yard touchdown.

Stroud had five passing touchdowns against Tampa Bay, completing 30 of his 42 pass attempts.

Stroud's second touchdown pass of the day was a 75-yard throw to former Ohio State wide receiver Noah Brown.

Through eight games, Stroud has a 62% completion rate with 2,270 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception.

Stroud was the second quarterback selected in the 2023 NFL draft behind Alabama's Bryce Young.

In 2021-22, Stroud was a two-time Heisman finalist, completing 69.3% of his pass attempts for 8,123 passing yards, 85 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
