Former Detroit Lions WR Josh Reynolds joins Denver Broncos on $14M deal

One of Jared Goff's favorite targets will be catching passes for a new quarterback next year.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Josh Reynolds agreed to a free agent deal with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday.

The deal, for two seasons, is worth up to $14 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Reynolds was the Lions' third-leading receiver last season with 608 yards and five touchdowns on 40 catches. He played with Goff in 2017-20 with the Los Angeles Rams, and joined the Lions' midseason in 2021 as a waiver claim from the Tennessee Titans.

The Lions were interested in re-signing Reynolds for 2024, but were reluctant to overspend on a player who likely would have opened next season as their No. 3 receiver.

The Lions return leading receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and are expecting Jameson Williams to play a bigger role on offense in his third year. Tight end Sam LaPorta, who was second on the team with 86 catches and 889 yards last season, and running back Jahmyr Gibbs also return after standout rookie campaigns.

Reynolds caught 97 passes for 1,393 yards and 10 touchdowns in 38 games with the Lions, but had two costly drops in the team's NFC championship game loss to the San Francisco 49ers in January.

The Lions, owners of the NFL's second-ranked passing attack in 2023, are now in the market for a veteran receiver to join a unit that also includes Kalif Raymond (35 catches, 489 yards) and Antoine Green (one catch, 2 yards).

Donovan Peoples-Jones, who the Lions acquired in a midseason trade with the Cleveland Browns last season, was re-signed earlier this month, giving the Lions additional veteran experience.
